Higashiyama Kaii Gallery is temporarily closed for renovation from May 31th 2017. Nagano Prefectural Shinano Art Museum is also closed for reconstruction from October 1st 2017.

I enjoyed this gallery very much. Higashiyama Kaii paintings on the nature of Nagano is very impressive. This museum is definitely worth viewing.

I enjoyed this gallery very much. It was interesting to see a Japanese artists view of Europe. The panitings are very emotive. The gallery is just the right size and of attractive design with a good range of the artist's works.

A good collection of Higashiyama's career, with a number of very impressive paintings. If you like his work, or you're interested in his work, or you're curious about the work of on of Japan's great landscape artists, then it's a good hour or so spent.
