Among the dozens of temples along the Philosopher’s Path this temple stands out for my own self, which is no self. Everything is so well taken care. The place I like the most is the cementery with its beautiful Buddha at the entrance, the tall...More

You can find this as you walk along the Philosopher's Path. It is a great during koyo viewing season but that is also when it gets crowded.

This beautiful, simple temple and the lovely zen garden that surrounds it are well worth your time, much more so than Ginkaku-Ji temple (Silver pavilion) which was overcrowded and commercial. There is something special about the atmosphere in Honen-in. Definitely a must-see if you're on...More

This temple is really close to the Philosopher’s Walk and it’s wirth the stop. First of all is free and it’s really beatiful. Beign so close to the forest gives the temple an exotic look as if the nature wanted to conquer it. It’s peaceful...More

Peaceful and lush. There just so happened to be a calligraphy showcase when I was there which was amazing. For any literature buffs this is also the resting place for Tanizaki Junichirou.

We combined the visit to Honen-in Temple with a walk down the Philosophers Walk. Japan has so many big & bold temples - but this natural, Moss-covered temple in peaceful grounds was my favourite.

I wouldn't say it's the best temple. I do like the peace and calm if a nice shady miss garden. All gardens I think are subjective. Do you like the popular ones then you have crowds. If you visit the less popular ones they will...More

Visited this buddhist temple which is 6 mins walk from Philospher's Path. Really serene and nice and not crowded with tourists. Love the old feel of this place.

The long elegant tree covered wide walkway up to the temple puts you in a relaxing mood. Once inside the grounds there are some unique features to see. And there is usually some type of art exhibit with items for sale, also. The last 2...More

This temple has to be one of my absolute favourites in Kyoto. I make a point of visiting every time I walk the Tetsugaku no Michi, the Philosopher's Path, on my way from Ginkakuji to eastern Kyoto. It is a short walk away from the...More

Only the temple grounds are open to the public (except during rare special occasions when the main hall is opened up for a fee) so you won't need to set aside anything more than an hour here.
