Visited this buddhist temple which is 6 mins walk from Philospher's Path. Really serene and nice and not crowded with tourists. Love the old feel of this place.

The long elegant tree covered wide walkway up to the temple puts you in a relaxing mood. Once inside the grounds there are some unique features to see. And there is usually some type of art exhibit with items for sale, also. The last 2...More

Honen-in is a small, quiet temple that makes a good diversion along the Philosopher's Path. It is cool and mossy with a small pond and intriguing raised dry garden.

Walked here from Kinkakuji...it's ok, I guess...honestly, the fact that I can't even write much in a poor review should tell you everything you need to know...it's atmospheric and quiet but I can't give any reason why you'd want to spend precious time here.

This temple is largely off the beaten track and so avoids most of the tourist crowds, which just adds to its allure. It's only a few minutes from the Philosopher's Walk and the Zenrin-ji/Nanzen-ji area, so definitely make the time. Greener than most of the...More

This serene little gem is off the radar of most tourists. We caught a 5:46am 30-minute bus (bus 17 stand A2) and got off on Jodojo stop. It opens at 6am. Aside from a few walkers, we had it all to ourselves. It was the...More

Only the temple grounds are open to the public (except during rare special occasions when the main hall is opened up for a fee) so you won't need to set aside anything more than an hour here.
