I am so happy I took the bus ride to Ohara, it turned out to be a very pleasant destination, of the few Temples there this is a must to see. It is almost virtually at the end of road.

This temple is not to be missed, even though it's a bit outside of Kyoto proper. I've been several times and it's always inspiring and magical. The gardens are unforgettable. Ohara is a delight and a unique countryside experience.

This is the place, where you just want to lay down on the ground, look at the vegetation around, then the sky, then the ever present insane Crows .... and then! Close your eyes and never wake up. It is that good.

This place was one of the highlights of Kyoto for us. The history of the buildings, the art, the figurines, the statues, the faces in the gardens...just go visit!

Yes it is remote and this is why it's worth it. Less crowded than the most famous spots and maybe even more beautiful. Amazing gardens and the landscapes just become jaw dropping in Autumn.

Sanzen-in is a spectacular, secluded temple featuring pristine gardens and stunning sculptures nestled within a gorgeous location. It's among the most beautiful places to visit in Kyoto.

It took some doing to get to this area, but it was worth the trip. The temple is up in the mountains in a much less populated area, and the location contributed to the lack of crowds which was a real plus. We took a...More

A bit more difficult to access compared with other famous tourist spots. Take the “system 17 bus”, and better from Kyoto station so that you can get a seat to take this 1 hour long bus ride. En route you’ll enjoy the view of Kamo...More

Went here and walked around grounds for 1 hour with the family. Was a wonderful trip and highly recommend it. Its a bit off center and mainly Japanese here visiting rather than many foreigners

There are taxis in the area because of tourists. It may be a case of luck as to whether there is one around when you arrive at the bus stop. It is a quiet area. I think the cabs tend to be dropping off and picking up closer... More
