Very beautiful and definitely not as crowded as other sightseeing locations in Kyoto. Definitely a hidden gem. The temple is close to Kyoto City Zoo and the Tetsugaku-no-michi famous for the quietness around. I definitely recommend this temple if you want to sense the beauty...More

As I finished walking down the Philosopher’s Path, I came upon this beautiful and unusual temple laid out against the mountain amid beautiful green trees, bushes, and plants. I didn’t realize how large it was from the bottom. Walking from the lower temple, through the...More

We went here around 10 or 11am but there were still no crowds to speak of and we had entire parts of the temple to ourselves.

This temple was the most lovely surprise of lush gardens. So peaceful and tranquil. You absolutely must add it to your itinerary. Just so lovely!

There is an admission cost for this temple but it is worth it! It is a beautifully designed complex that is well preserved with the funds they receive. There are a lot of temples in Kyoto but this was one of my favorites. The view...More

It's really easy to get overwhelmed with temples and shrines but this one is well worth it. I walked the philosphers path and arrived at the end (at this temple) right at 9am when it opens. It was great as there were only 2-3 other...More

In a sense it’s kind of ridiculous to visit only one shrine in Kyoto, but what I’m saying is this is really one of the best. Definitely worth the 600yen it costs to get in. Go in the morning when it’s relatively peaceful and quiet....More

Just beyond the southern end of the Path of Philosophy, this temple has a peaceful, extensive garden. It's usually quiet and uncrowded. The gardens and solitude are worth the trip.
