This temple is one of the biggest temple in kyoto. Combine the budha and shinto religion. We can take a picture with kimono for the good memories.

西本願寺を先に訪問し、引き続き、東本願寺に行った。親鸞の「歎異抄」はだいぶ前に読んだことがあるが、 「善人なおもて 往生をとぐ いわんや 悪人おや」 の英訳版が掲示してあった。 ”If even a good person attains birth in the Pure Land how much more so the evil person” キリスト教の主の祈りに似た部分がある。弘法大師の厳しいスタイルより柔らかだ。 御影堂内部は写真禁止だった。西本願寺は撮影できたのだが。。

This temple is pretty spectacular. It is staggering the amount of timber that went into to building this magnificent structure. The detail is just amazing. Photography is not permitted inside the temple. Wear shoes that can easily be taken off and put back on as...More

Need to do a bit of travel research of this Temple as there are just too many of shrines and temples in religious-rich Kyoto. Not frequently featured in most guide books but東本願寺is a gem to us (after the visit)! It is within 10 minutes’ walk...More

Not a place featured in most of the guide books. It's free admission and there are no crowds of tourists. It's a nice walk around the different temple halls. Take the time to read the inspiring quotes on the walls of the temple.

After more than 2 weeks in Japan, the free temples seem to be the most amazing ones. Moreover they are not crowded. Magnificent huge wooden buildings with beautiful bouddhist flags everywhere. The hotels are very lovely too. Close to Tokyo Train Station. Can be visited...More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub,
Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining,
and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with
tourists and local business travelers, making it a
competitive location for ever-new commercial
structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and
trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains.
