Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely little temple with bamboo and lots of moss. Hidden gem without many tourists. It's a nice walk away from all the busy main tourist attractions.

Jizoin is one of temples in Kamikatsura area. It is also called “Takenotera”, as there are many bamboos in the premises. I suppose that many tourists come here for the season of red leaves. But as I visited, the season is over, and I was the only visitor at that time. So, I enjoyed opulently the garden for my own.

We went here on our journey to several other places of interest to us . A very peaceful area , and if you have a few minutes spare when in the area , or waiting for the bus , a visit is recommended .

There are currently construction work and almost the entire house and back garden are not accessible. It is also extremely noisy. I don’t understand why they change people the full price of 500 yen for almost nothing to see. They give you a “free” postcard as apologize when you already have paid and are frustrated in front of the house (see pictures). This is ridiculous!

The directions was a little confusing because I wasn’t able to see signboard to the Jizoin while walking the way. The temple was well maintained same as other temple in Kyoto. I went to there top of October so trees were not colored yet but bamboo forest were so beautiful and if trees would be colored it must be more beautiful.

Bamboo temple, locates middle of residential area.
Near Suzumushi-dera temple.
Walk from Kami-katsura station.
Very very good atmosphere, I feel like able to cure the cancer by only bleating this air.
In the temple, no able to take photo, notice on the wall says “Please refrain from laying down”. No wonder, i can see every body want to lay down here.

No gorgeous garden like temples in Higashiyama, no sophisticated meaning like garden in Ryoanji temple.
Only quiet, and calm exist there.

Please not visit with many, that may surprise the bamboos and old ready on the ticket counter.

This was the best temple I visited in Kyoto. Not because it's the grandest or largest temple, but because it is quiet, peaceful, and preferable to the busy bamboo grove, (the temple is located in a bamboo grove). It has a stunning Japanese garden. Make sure you visit this place if you prefer a cultural experience without the hustle and bustle.

Just a few minutes walk from the famed Saiho-ji moss temple is Jizo-in temple, othetwise known as the Bamboo Temple as it sits amidst a Bamboo wood. To gey there from Saiho-ji, turn left from Saiho-ji entrance and when reaching the bus park a hundred yards down the road you will come to a climbing staircase opposite the junction. Follow this and keep heading straight for about 500m and Jizo-in is on your right. Quiet delightful in it's smallness, it emits a charm all of its own for that fact alone. Pay the lonely looking monk situated in his little entrance hut ¥500 each and sit for a while in peace on the wooden veranda overlooking a tiny garden. Wonderful!

This was a nice, quiet temple, very understated. There was abundant moss and a small bamboo grove and a nice garden. It was good to be away from hordes of tourists, and to have some time for contemplation and reflection. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but if I happened to be in the neighborhood it would definitely be worth the visit.

This small temple is a treat to visit- not many people get there and so its a great place to walk around. Ive been twice- in summer and in fall. Fall is by far the best- the paths around are glorious.
