We saw that pseudo focal point of the square in mid-August during our two-week’s auto run across Siberia (Novosibirsk-Altai-Kemerovo-Krasnoyarsk-Abakan-Kyzyl). Me, my friend, my son-in-law and my grandson took a private tour of Krasnoyarsk and our guide naturally brought us to one of its central squares. I didn’t like either it or that Apollo guy. Absolutely dull, faceless and unimpressive. I hardly got it that that was the Jack of all trades from heaven. A nothingburger. Look for better places in Krasnoyarsk – there are lots of them.

Apollo was a son of Zeus in Greek mythology. He is renowned for many talents,but music is his greatest attribute. His half-brother Hermes,gave him a lyre, which is similar to a small harp, and many sculptures of him include this instrument. His statue with lyre in hand is atop a tall 13 meter column in front of the Opera and Ballet Theatre. Photos of Apollo are probably best taken from beside the nearby fountain. We found this statue of Greek mythology to be quite interesting, as we had visited another Greek sculpture of Zeus and Europa at the "abduction of europe" fountain, which is in a park on the other side of the Yensei River, over the communal bridge. To see two Greek sculptures in Krasnoyarsk was quite surprising.The Rivers of Siberia fountain is a short walk away from the statue, and just beyond that is the statue of Chekov.
