We went of a 5 day fishing trip with Capt Tom of Coiba Adventure Sportfishing. What an epic experience! We had unbelievable fishing every day. A huge variety of species, all sizes and colors. Huge snappers, groupers, roosterfish, you name it we caught it. 87 fish in 4 and a half days. It was non stop. It really helps if you're fishing with Capt Tom who has over 30 years fishing the waters of Coiba Island National Park. When the locals are telling you Capt Tom knows the water like no one else you know you have the right guy. I was hot when we went March 15-20 but the boat has shade and plenty of beverages. You can also swim if you want to cool down. The islands and beaches are incredible. So much to see and so much area to fish. It took half an hour from when we got onboard the boat to have our first hook-up. If you're into fishing a variety of species this is the place to go.

Where to begin? Capt Tom knows these waters and Ameadow is a fantastic mate. Jessica a.k.a. The Captain's daughter goes out of her way to answer your questions, prepare delish local foods for meals, and make you comfortable. Very personable.

Remember this is a sport fishing adventure, not the Ritz Carlton. It's simple, clean, and just what you need! Blast getting to know the local neighbors and learning about the island. The adventure of getting there by water taxi ads to the fun. I highly recommend.

Absolute Blast!!!! We took a guys fishing trip to Panama. From the time we arrived in Panama City everything was handled just as reported!!! The VIP service was exceptional, no issues at customs or in the airport. We were in the airport maybe 15-20 min after getting off the plane, that was including getting our luggage. Easiest international transition I have had!! The hotel in Panama was great. Easy comfortable, and convenient. Every aspect of this trip was exceptional. Once we arrived at Coiba we boarded the joker and were fishing immediately. The first day we caught 11 different species of fish. For the next 5 days we fished extremely had and had several Bill fish strikes. Though we never hooked one Capt Tom made sure to try different areas and techniques. That’s why it’s Fishing and not Catching. I can’t say enough about the hospitality that Jessica provided to our group during our stay! The food was exceptional each and every night and always had something new up her sleeve!!! Kudos to you Jess. You were amazing. Over the course of our trip we caught 18 different species of fish including multiple rooster, wahoo, dorado, and snapper. On the last day capt Tom took us to an island where we were able to snorkel over some reefs which was amazing. We actually swam with a massive sea turtle and even sharks. Trip of a lifetime. Y’all were amazing. A must do!!!

We spent a weekend with Tom and Jessica and it was a lovely experience. We went for a fishing day and had a lot of fun catching a variety of fish. The staff was very helpful and super accomodating. The adventure day they took us to a couple of islands in Coiba for snorkeling and each one was better than the other. Again they accomodated us very well planning for snacks and drinks. Nothing was missing, they thought of everything.

Highly recommend booking with them!!!

I have over 30 scuba dives on Coiba and could not believe all the fish I saw. My dive group recommended Capt Tom and after numerous conversations with him and daughter Jessica I booked with my adventure buddy Ron. We have gone on about 8 trips together combining class 5 white water rafting with jungle hiking, chartering sailboat in the San blas islands, fishing in Quepos CR and eating and gambling in Panama City. But this trip topped everything and the highlight was the capt tom and daughter Jessica show!! They worked with me as I set up a week of fishing and adventure; peacock bass fishing on lake gatun, white water rafting on the rio grande and a day of diving on coiba with my favorite dive master Julie of coiba dive center.
You wanna catch Marlin, roosters, wahoo and a bunch of others then book with Marlin Panama and capt tom!!
You are in the middle of nowhere but you are safe because he has been fishing here for 25 years and his first class boat and knowledge of the waters is second to none. The accommodations are clean, quiet and rustic and Jessica should have been a chef!!! Excellent, Have fun!!

I started going to Coiba in 2003 and have been there at least a dozen times since then. I consider it one of my favorite fishing destinations in the world. If your are looking for five star hotel accommodations, this may not your place. However if you are looking for the adventure of a lifetime, this is the place to go. As I stated, I have gone back here at least a dozen times and each trip has been different than the last. However, they have all been an adventure and I always felt that everyone is giving their all while I am there as a guest.

The island is a place of great beauty and diversity and you never know what you are going to see or experience when you get up in the morning. There are monkeys, whales, crocodiles and numerous exotic species of birds. The fishing grounds are highly productive and cathching fish is generally not an issue. That being said, I have had some slow days fishing in Panama, but that is the nature of fishing. Trust me, there are some fish of a lifetime hanging out in the neighborhood.

I have fished with numerous different staff over the years but they have always been friendly and helpful. The food has always been outstanding. My experiences hanging around the bar at the end of the day are some of my favorite memories and I will cherish them forever. As stated earlier, this is not a luxury vacation but if you are looking for excellent fishing in a beautiful part of the world, you could do a lot worse than Panama. I know that I will be going back next year.

Coiba and Hannibal Bank are some of those tough to get spots that in my opinion make them really precious. Captain Tom and his daughter Jessica work extremely hard to offer a first-class fishing experience in such a remote locale.

I'd been wanting to fish Coiba for a long time, and carefully researched the options, which are really few (in the summer of 2019):
1) Fish from a panga and sleep on a mothership
2) Use a mainland fishing lodge with 4+hour run times to Hannibal Bank
3) Tom & Jessica's operation, sleeping in Bahia Honda and running from there to the fishing grounds (2-3 hours).

Tom & Jessica's is really the only operation that keeps you as close as possible to the target fishing areas, and if you are targeting black marlin, there is no place on Earth like Hannibal Bank. We fished it 3 days, and raised marlins every day within a few minutes of dropping our baits. Every time! We didn't land all of them, but the consistency in the action was amazing. Kudos to Captain Tom and his knowledge of what works (the right bait!).

Other species abound, we caught dorado, roosterfish, yellowtail tuna, etc. We targeted roosterfish one day and got one. The one species I wanted to fish but ran out of time to fish for was Cubera snapper.

Tom & Jessica were extremely accommodating. I didn't want to fly directly to Coiba Island, they organized a driver from Panama City to Santa Catalina and a water taxi to Bahia Honda (the island which they operate from, which is a 1 hour boat ride from the nearest road). I didn't want to fish solo, they found an excellent partner for me. I did not want a deck hand, they let Jerry (my partner) and me do all the work on the boat. They let me design the experience the way I wanted it.

On shore, Jessica is an amazing hostess. Meals were all delicious, as were the boxed lunches she'd send us off with at 5AM (her egg BLTs are amazing!).

If you like unique, off-the-beaten-path, fishing experiences in pristine locales, you have to do Coiba. If a black marlin is on your bucket-list, Hannibal Bank with Captain Tom is where you need to be.
