About
Panama's home of live, bio-active single variety honey. We also have a 200 sq meter butterfly house with over 30 local species of butterflies. Emerge yourself in the pollinators with a half day tour or else just swing buy for honey tastings and butterfly house (open 9-4), shop (open 9-4). We have a unique offering and we want to share it with people who like high quality honey, love nature and want to make a difference by supporting our small business. We are passionate about taste. We can offer honey tastings like no other. More varied than anywhere else in the world that we know of. We produce a vast range of different flavors of honey depending on the floral source. This is unique and only possible because of the enormous biodiversity in Western Panama around Volcan Baru. This small Isthmus has Atlantic and Pacific coasts, 11,000 ft mountains and just about every type of forest and grassland in between. Some of our honeys are rare, some we have in larger quantity. We are serious about health. Our honey and our honey bees are very healthy. We sell raw minimally filtered honey. More than that though, our honey is pure and pristine in ways that are not possible in most of the developed world: 1. Most of our honeys are from wild plants which have no chemical treatment and are utterly pristine 2. Our bees are healthy, we do not need to feed antibiotics or miticides We want to teach people to better understand how to care for our pollinators. We offer a tour on our honey farm in Boquete. We treasure all types of bees and keep on the farm a wide variety of forage for bees, different types of native bees to illustrate how bees and plants are meant to exist together. Our butterfly house is 200 sq meters and is full of fun and activity. Sure to delight all ages.

BUTTERFLIES AND BEES
May 2021 • Solo
I sometimes use honey to sweeten my coffee. Usually it's clover honey back in the States. And I use it to slowly swallow it for a sore throat. It helps. Back home in south Florida I have plants that attract butterflies. I planted them for that very purpose. I have milkweed plants, which monarch butterflies lay their eggs on. Then the hatched larvae eat the milkweed plant almost completely. But those milkweed plants always regenerate back to full volume. The adult insects become monarch butterflies after they go through metamorphosis. The adults then sip nectar from other plants. I also have nectar plants for passing butterflies of other species, like the zebra butterflies. Monarch in the eastern part of the United States, and on into Canada, migration to a place in Mexico to over-winter. They make that flight in a single generation. After winter, they leave Mexico and fly back to their home territory. This generation of butterflies is not the same generation that flew south to Mexico. This "returning" generation is new, never having been up north where the previous generation is from. And this new generation doesn't make the flight in a single generation. It takes about three or four generation to reach the original habitat in the United States, or Canada. Somehow these generations of monarchs have a GPS in their DNA. These generations have a shorter lifespan than the generation that flew to Mexico. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed all the bees and butterflies here. And I learned some things.

Even Better than anticipated

I had high hopes for this tour since we had never done a bee tour or honey tasting. It was amazing! Our guide was so knowledgeable. We learned so much about different varieties of bees and their honey making process. The butterfly garden was also lovely. They have a nursery where they show you the butterflies from egg/ larvae/ caterpillar/ chrysalis. Other butterfly gardens I’ve been to is just the walk through with butterflies and flowers. The honey tasting was amazing... over 20 types of honey! I would definitely recommend this tour!

Fantastic

We came to Boquete for a few days because of the holidays, many other places were full and cancelling tours due to the bad weather but this place was open and welcoming for drop ins to visit the butterfly house. Their staff were really nice and helpful even though we arrived in their rush hour.
The butterfly house was really nice, we got to see various types of butterflies and even got a really detailed explanation of the work they did in order to breed and take care of the butterflies, we learned lots about their life and the kids were thrilled! Keep in mind that is a self guided tour, so they really went overboard with their great service to give us a nice experience.

I took my family to their honey tasting tour and it was incredible! They were super knowledgeable and friendly. We tried so many different honeys and were able to purchase some later. The honey I purchased were truly the best gifts ever to bring back to my friends. TOTALLY RECOMMENDED!

The facilities are wonderful, and our tour guide Camille was fabulous-- enthusiastic and very knowledgeable in all the facets. He is also a geographer.
And the honey is so delicious. Amazing varieties. Thanks for a great afternoon!

We learned about bees, butterflies, and their ecosystems. Our guide Johnny was phenomenal: he was so knowledgable and interesting to listen to. He also taught about so many of the plants there and their importance to the ecosystem. The honey tasting was fun, with so many options to choose from. This tour is great for anybody.

Great tour

Our guide was super informative about bees and the many plants and insects in the bee farm. The butterfly house was also a great treat - many different species flying all around you. Only downside is you need a PayPal account or you have to visit the farm before hand to make a reservation.

Rude owner and terrible customer service
Feb 2020
I had heard so much about this lovely place and the work they are doing to preserve bees and butterflies. Sadly I was unable to visit, as there is apparently only one person that can do tours and honey tastings. The owner was there, and rather than offer to help us herself, shrugged her shoulders and went back to her office. I heard from other visitors how, after making a tour reservation, still had to wait two hours to take it. They sure need better customer service, and more staff to meet the needs of potential visitors. A shame, really. Would have loved to give them my money.

Wonderful Afternoon Activity!

My wife and I had so much fun tasting honey and touring the butterfly garden at Boquete Bees!

Our tour guide (I feel so bad I cannot remember her name!) was so nice and knowledgable about everything we saw. The honeys were so yummy and at the end we ended up buying 3 large jars and a mini one. We used the chili pepper one last night in a chicken dish and it was AMAZING! So happy we took it home.

I have been to dozens of butterfly gardens in various countries and cities, but I have never enjoyed one more than this one. It was so pretty and I actually learned things I had not already known (which is hard, because I really have been to a lot of these!).

All in all, we had so much fun and I would probably move here if they would let me sleep on the floor!

Winged beauty

We had a great time at Boquete Bees and Butterfly house. We toured the butterfly exhibit with a biologist staff member who showed us the stages of life from eggs to brightly flitting butterflies. We were able to sit and photograph as Blue Morpho Butterflies dipped and weaved about the greenhouse where they live.
