About
Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society of Astoria The purposes of the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society of Astoria, Inc. are to encourage, support and maintain Schools, Dramatics, Lectures and Libraries for Czech and Slovak children and children of Czech and Slovak parentage: to maintain a social home for people of Czech and Slovak ancestry, in which the Czech and Slovak cultures may be taught and blended with American traditions and culture. The Society owns and manages the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden. The Society consists of individuals of Czech and Slovak descent and their families who have pledged themselves to work for and promote the purposes for which the Society exists. In the late 1800’s many Czech and Slovaks emigrated from Austria-Hungary, and made their way to America. Many found a home in Astoria, Queens. In 1892, the Bohemian Citizens’ Benevolent Society was formed, named after the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awesome Oktoberfest Sunday! Full menu for purchase. Outdoor seating. Service is so friendly. Music outside. Plenty of tables to sit, with shade or without. Food is amazing! Tried all the pirogi: mac n cheese, jalapeno cheese, black garlic and feta. All amazing. Get 'em fried. Also had the grilled meat platter with sauerkraut, bread and pickles. Potato pancakes, giant pretzel, smoked pork, hamburger, lobster mac n cheese and on and on. All so delicious. They had giveaways and a stein hoist contest. Loads of fun. Get there!

Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden, Astoria, Queens, is the worst place my wife and I have ever visited. DO NOT GO THERE!!! Or you will get fictitious charges on your credit card every month. We have been dealing with them and our credit card companies for three months. The beers that are supposed to be 2 for 1 ($8.00) during Happy Hour, and we got 2 rounds, my wife got a charge for $36.00 with a 105% tip. The tip was so high that she got an email from her credit card company letting her know of the unusual tip. We went to the Beer Garden, talked to the manager, and gave us a voucher for $9.00 to use next time. We went next time to use the voucher during Happy Hour, and bought an extra round of drinks with my credit card. When I got last month's statement, there was a charge for $43.00. And this last statement, I received two more charges. I had to call my credit card company to dispute the charges, and if possible, to place a FRAUD COMPLAINT AGAINST BOHEMIAN HALL AND BEER GARDEN for charging fraudulent charges to my credit card.
SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE AND GO SOMEPLACE ELSE TO ENJOY YOUR DRINKS IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE FICTITIOUS CHARGES ON YOUR CREDIT CARD, unless you are paying cash.
My wife and I usually give 4 and 5 stars to the places we visit.

Called up to check if they were showing the World Cup rugby at 11:30. Was told they definitely were so took the subway 30 mins from Midtown.
Arrived to be told they don’t have the channel. Complete waste of a journey.

I've been here many times over the years, most recently last year. A Czech beer with burgers are a specialty. Their back yard is very spacious and you can sit at an outdoor table with no problems in finding a seat. The only thing I don't like is the security/bouncers. It is kind of unnecessary, even heavy-handed.

We're in town for a FDNY conference and decided to come here for dinner. Wow, what a cool place. Great beer selection and food was delicious. What was cool is for certain draft beers it's buy one get one free during happy hour!! So four beers for the price of one! Defiantly a place to check out if your in the area! I recommend the Mac and cheese appetizers

Worst experience!!!
Rude and incompetent staff. They must change their policy!!!
We were asked to leave.. and when we asked "Why" the answer was "Because you stayed more than 30 min"...

This is a wonderful place for friends and family to get together. The outdoor, very large Beer Garden is well shaded and has long tables to accommodate many people. There’s also an indoor restaurant downstairs that has a pool table and games.
The food and beer is excellent. It is run by a nonprofit Benevolent Society.
Unfortunately it seems that some of the recent negative reviews might have been instigated by someone who got a bunch of his friends to write, which is really sad and mean.
This is a lovely place and I would encourage anyone to visit for a very nice time.

My girlfriend and I visited this bar in June of this year and found the staff unwelcoming and rude. The name we recall is Alex. We were served the wrong beverage and politely stated that. We were told “well that’s not what you ordered” which definitely wasn’t true, but even if they believed that, that’s not an appropriate way to respond to a customer. It was not a 24 carat gold beverage, just a simple drink. We are both in the customer service industry and know that we would lose our jobs if we acted this way with customers. We have never experienced this.

One time when i was on the keto diet i went to this place. It was dead except for me and one other guy. I asked for a whiskey diet coke, since diet coke has no sugar and you are allowed to have very little sugar. I told this man whose name was Alex multiple times it has to be diet coke. I made it very clear.
He brings me the drink and it tastes.....not like diet coke. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and drank half of it. He comes back around and says "would you like another one? Whiskey ginger beer right?" I said "no....whiskey diet coke". He then tells me he poured me a whiskey ginger beer, which is full of sugar and it threw me out of ketosis and ruined my diet.
