Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went to the Filipino Market 3 times for the seafood. Each time it was delicious! They set up in the mid afternoon and cook fresh seafood which you can get at a great price. It was so good we had to go back. Highly recommend visiting at least once and getting a tuna steak, squid, prawn, crab or whatever else takes your fancy. It’s a bit smoky from all the barbecues but it didn’t bother us.

This market is on the waterfront of KK and takes place every day. It is a great place, full of ambiance, where you can eat delicious fresh sea food at low prices and shop around for food, fish, vegetables and fruit and even clothes and souvenirs. A great place to visit and take pictures. Highly recommended.

The souvenirs are of very low quality. Good enough only for the usual keychains and tourists. No real Sabah crafts. Nothing much has changed in this market. The dried seafoods and packed food such as amping sold outside are grossly overpriced. The RM 35 pack of amping was brought down to RM 15. At Pasar Besar, it's sold at RM 12.

We were strolling 🚶 around downtown passing this market. Fruits 🍇, veggies, nuts 🥜 dry snacks all kinds. I was not aware that this is the market advised as KK attraction. Nothing special for us as we are used this markets for years but for westerners could be something new

For pearl lovers, this is a place where you can bargain.
However, for those who are particular on the quality of pearls, you should visit jamilah jewellery behind le meridien hotel which offers modern design pearls with quality products.

For the course of three days in Kota Kinabalu, my friends and I chose thus exact same shop to eat as many seafood as we can. 4pax and you got whiterice, veges, calamari, fresh crab, lobster, prawn, fish at RM150 only. Now who doesn't want that. Not only that it's cheap. Their cooking is also out of this world marvellous. Opted for Crab cooked with KamHeong style and I died staright to heaven haha. Buttermilk lobster also mouth watering I can taste the heaven in my mouth. It's located inside the Filipino Market. Might be tricky to find the spot but just find this banner for your reference. Trust me, you will thank me later. And enjoy your dinner bcus we surely did!!

Having read the reviews I was dreading my visit but wanted to get some pearls for a friend. We visited about 5:30pm no issues with smell or smoke. We didn’t eat as neither of us do seafood, however that said it looked so good! We had a great 30mins walking around and didn’t come across one pushy person which is so refreshing!

Visited on 17/11/2017 with friends. We brought pearl bracelet n dried seafood.
Buying souvenirs here is much more cheaper than buying at Kota Kinabalu Airport,no matter are t-shirts,keychains,pearls,etc...But do negotiated price while buying pearls. My friends buy salted fish, ikan bilis, vendor will wrapped the salted fish with big masking tape. It do sell dried seahorse, dried sea cucumber too. The Sabah t-shirts-many design, price ranging 20RM-25RM(glow in the dark).

Had dinner at the Filipino market at the Seafood Stalls for two. Our meals consist of 'small sized red fish', 8 pieces of small squids, 'Baby Kailan', Rice, 2 drinks, and a tiger prawn. Overcharged for RM92 !!! The food was rather tasteless. Baby Kailan for two priced at RM20? Ridiculously expensive. Even a Five star hotel does not charge that much. The place was rather dirty, unhygienic. A meal for RM 92?? Non-sense.
Never in my entire life had been ripped off in such a way.
I am a Malaysian myself and dare they overcharged this price for some cheap and road side food stall. Shame to the food stall owners and the District Authority for failing to supervise this matter.
Bargaining for food? Never heard of such ridiculous idea. One can bargain for items etc but a meal being cooked to be bargain that's pitiful.
If you love bargaining for food then maybe this will be an ideal place. But I still reserve a bit of dignity and self respect that I will not beg, haggle, or bargain for my meal.

Spending a day and a half and 1/2 in Kota Kinabalu
Then going on to tours in Sandakan
can someone recommend a place to stay that is easy enough access back to the airport but yet also the Filipino night market and any other recommendations welcome!!!
Thanks

Base on my last experience, anywhere around KK was quite near to the market. But the absolute closes hotel to the Filipino Market will be Le Meridien Hotel, which is just across the road. For mid range hotel, the Klagan was quite popular for local travelers too. Access to the airport is more or less the same throughout the city;but be careful not to get caught in a rush hour jam.

Hi,is the market open on public holiday? I plan to visit it on the coming 31 Aug 2018.
Written 5 July 2018
Yes.. It opens almost all year round except on Hari Raya Puasa / Aidilfiri where there will be much less traders/sellers around.

Hi,
Does anyone know the opening times of the market?
Thanks
Written 7 May 2015
Depends on the sellers actually. Some open as early as 8.30am and close around 7pm. I had went there at 6pm and most of them close by 6.30pm-7pm. The later you go, the bigger chances they offer you good price. Good luck!
