Rinnoji is one of the best Japanese garden in Sendai, its pagoda is BEAUTIFUL when reflecting on the pond. Rinnoji has been listed in "Hidden Gardens of Japan" - THE photo essay and reference for finding unspoiled gardens in Japan (minus the tour bus crowds)...More

A Shinto shrine, well maintained and peaceful amidst tall trees. Entry to the garden requires an entry fee.

This temple is a little bit off the map and you'll have to walk a while from the station. The entrance uphill is quite impressive. We liked the beautiful Japanese garden but could not see nor visit the temple itself at all. Is there one?

It's a nice quiet place nestled in Sendai city. Quiet, peaceful, and the view of the pagoda is different depending on the season that you visit. I was able to find the place easily as I'm fluent in Japanese. For those who can't speak or...More

We went to the temple for a meditation class and dinner afterwards. Really beautiful classic garden and large temple bell which we rang and got to make a wish.

Rinnoji is absolutely the best temple in Sendai! careful, there are many steps to climb, but it is worth it. A photographer's paradise if you like old temples with plenty of character and interesting people.
