We went on a rainy day, and found it to be relatively interesting to learn about the history of the lantern festival in Akita. I'd only recommend it for rainy days though and I wouldn't make a special trip there.

I was indeed surprised by the displays inside this place. There were quite some Kantos of different sizes for visitors to try out with! Additionally there are some exhibits about some overseas Kanto performances during some cultural exchange events. This is definitely a good place...More

Just a short walk away from the city centre, the staff here were rather welcoming. I enjoyed looking at the towering Kanto lanterns displayed here as well as the videos showing the past festivals.

We enjoyed this museum. It's good value at Y100 includes Akita festival exhibition and old house. If you ask one of the people you will be able to try carrying the lanterns. The videos also kept our younger one interested.
