Fukuoka City Zoo is under reconstruction - the present view is depressing because animals are kept like in the beginning of the 20th century. The adjacent Botanical Garden is much nicer and may justify the visit to the Zoo. The self-service cabin lift is another...More
To be able to travel with a young child & have the ability to have others around, this is a place to do so.
Throughout the park there are many places to set down & enjoy the gardens while having a break or a snack...More
My grandkids live in Fukuoka so we took a trip to the Zoo last week. First the parking is awful. We had to park and take a taxi to the Zoo.
It would be best to bring your own food as it was not great....More
A nice place to visit but be warned that it is a far walk from the nearest subway station. We found ourselves hiking over a small hill/park to reach the zoo. I didn't mind the walk in the cool December air but can imagine it...More
The habitats are not bad but not up to the standards we are used to in the US. Many unique Asian animals. We did not see the whole zoo due to heat. Walking distance from subway, but long on top of walking at the zoo...More

You can use bus or subway. I recommend the bus since it'll drop you off right at the entrance. If you use the subway, you get off at Sakurazaka station and then you have a pretty good hike up the steep hill to the zoo. There should be several buses to there from Tenjin. Google maps works well on finding the bus number and departure times from wherever you are.
