Stopped off at the Okumura museum in Nara today. It is just one room and the displays are mostly in Japanese only. However this shouldn't put you off. There are a number of guides who speak excellent English and explain the principles of their earthquake...More

We came to this museum to try out the earthquake simulation chair and left with much more information about earthquake resistant buildings. It was surprisingly interesting (hence the title of this review!). Okumura is a Japanese construction company that has it's own brand of earthquake...More

Try the earthquake chair! I have never experienced an earthquake and at this place you can try the strongest ones and see how special building techniques ease the experience and save buildings. The staff doesn't speak English but they do their best to help you.
