The sheer size of this indoor Buddha is impressive, the temple is also very large to be able to accommodate this giantic Buddha. Beyond the size of the Buddha, there is nothing that would consider extraordinary.
It was very crowded when we arrived at this temple, but it was a warm, inviting Friday afternoon. The Buddha statue was certainly worth a visit, despite the crowd. There were scale models of the temple complex on display as well. I suggest going earlier...More
Todai-ji is one of several temples in Nara, but its sheer size is awe-inspiring making it the best (and the size of the golden Buddha inside it). It takes about 30 mins to an hour to have a good look around the site and it...More
We didn't pay to go inside the main area of the temple, and instead choose to wander around the free areas (we are backpackers on a tight budget). Just wandering around the exterior of this temple gave us a great feel for how magnificent it...More

The walk is not difficult but straight forward, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes with few photo stops on the way. If you want to take the public bus, there are bus stops in front of the train station and junction of road that leads to Todaiji or else you can ask the personnel at the Information Desk in the station for detail assistance. Highly recommend to have a stroll to Todaiji on foot.
