Wonderful old temple at Gangoji on the Yamanobe no Michi trail. They serve somen noodles here. And there are two poetry monuments, both of which are profiled in "Precious Stones," a delightful book about the old trail and its poetry monuments. Highly recommended.

I stumbled upon this while looking for some temples and shrines. This remained open when some of the temples and shrines were closed. This was free and is self-guided. It's beautiful and simple.

An opportunity to walk through a restored traditional house, to get a sense of how life & living was structured in Nara-machi. Peaceful, well organised, practical, beautiful living.

This beautiful and well preserved traditional house, located in the peaceful Nara-Machi area is well worth a visit. I particularly liked the little courtyard/garden in the middle of the building. Such great use of space here.

This little museum demonstrates what a traditional machi-ya in Nara would look like. Visited on a rainy day and there was only me inside. The only staff (receptionist) gave me tour inside the house and demonstrated how to operate a traditional Japanese front door. Free...More
