I definitely understand the hype about this shrine - It was beautiful! we went on a day where it was snowing heavily and it made the experience even more magical for us. Easily my favourite thing I managed to do in Kyoto.

This shrine is amazing. Just one stop on the train from Kyoto station (or an easy bike ride) - it's free and simply breathtaking. Wander up the hill through the never ending red temple arches.
