This museum is quite good with great displays...however, for those of us who do not know Japanese, it is difficult to take everything in. I really wanted to enjoy the displays and understand them. Thus, we only stayed a short time.More

A nice museum with a little of everything. Animals on the ground floor. Maritime and local history on the second. Ainu people artifacts on the third floor. Great way to see some interesting history. Walking paths and a park nearby.

We had our Japanese speaking tour leader which helped with understanding the displays. Very well presented exhibits covering many aspects of local history, geology and wildlife. The museum director contributed also to our visit which was very much appreciated.

Interesting, worth a visit if you are in the area. Interesting exhibits on a variety of topics, like wildlife in Hokkaido, the history of Kushiro, and an exhibition on Ainu culture.

A little away from the central Kushiro area next to Lake Harutori is a hilly region with a major hospital and this city museum. The museum building is quite prominent; they say it was designed after a Japanese red-headed crane (tancho) with its wings fully...More
