it's foc with jr pass but make sure you reserved it. reserved car a bit more open air than unreserved plus not crowded. unfortunately the guide is in japanese...cant complain much if u stop at Biei to go to Farm Tomita, make sure to remember the train schedule. only this train stops at Biei and it will take you back until Asahikawa.

I specially catch up this train at asahikawa to furano., ,first train and got place near window. Really very worth because a long the journey, my eyes saw very fantastic view. My best recording is my eyes. No air con in this train, and if you catch at the half way, maybe, you must keep standing a long the way. Summer is very crowded.

Took this train on the way back to Asahikawa, this open air train is pretty slow and jam packed all the way. It was super hot on the day we visited Furano hence the train ride was not at all relaxing, it was stuffy with all the people. I could not feel the air circulate at the coaches at all even though the windows were open. The views were great but I was not able to appreciate it due to the heat.

English is not my native language, so it is not easy to express my love to Biei, such a pure, peaceful, beautiful snow world. actually, I am from north of China, it always snows in winter. however, it develops too fast, high buildings and people everywhere, crowded and crowded. I think the best way to tell you all the truth is my pictures. the real world is much more beautiful than my pictures. when you be there, you would like to spend all your life there. I choose the homestay at pension Jacatra in Biei, it is a nice house with fantastic view and dinner. the best is they provide pick up service from Biei JR station, otherwise it costs you 2000yen by taxi...

Shikisai Hill, 四季彩の丘., a spacious flower park with various flower fields, which can be viewed by walking along the trails, by renting golf or buggy carts or by taking a paid 15 minute ride on tractor pulled wagons. There is a shop, cafe and observation deck. Do not forget to get the icecream. One also can see a giant scarecrow made from hay.
