Today, I am visiting Yamanashi prefecture. There is Maizuru castle in front of Kofu station, cherry blossoms are just in full bloom. Cherry blossoms are flowers representing spring of Japan, bloom only about 10days, and the short period of beauty attract Japanese people’s hearts. Every...More

There is no entrance fee, so no personal cost to see this attraction. Walls are preserved well, but castle is gone. From top bastion all mountains around as well as city can be seen.

I stayed around Kofu station. It was walking distance. I took a walk in the morning. It was very nice that there was no one there in the morning. You could see the great view of Kofu area.

The castle site is primarily reconstructed walls and stone fortifications as there is nothing left of the original structures. Some reproduced buildings are interesting and the gardens very well kept and enjoyable. The main benefit however was the spectacular views, including Fuji-san on a clear...More

Kofu Castle is a short five minute walk from Kofu Station. Once there, the walk is uphill but easily negotiable. The castle is mostly remnants with only a few structures, including a small tower. The lookout at the top of the hill is a good...More

I forget how I ended up in Kofu with time to kill, but I did. And with limited English around I went here, neat gardens and good reconstruction staying true to original methods. Good use of time if you have a few hours to kill...More

When you see a beautiful castle tower rising over a town in Japan is it almost invariably a concrete copy. The buildings of almost every castle in Japan have been destroyed over the years by dereliction, natural disaster, or war. Kofu is no exception and...More

At the important location to Edo here once was the gorgeous black castle built by Asano clan, a vassal daimyo of Hideyoshi. By new excavations locals changed their image of the castle and the Prefecture has restored some gates and stone walls for tourists.
