I travelled from Takeyama to Shinhotaka. I had beed looking forward to visiting Shinhotaka but was not sure about undertaking the trip due to the weather in Takeyama. Buy the 3 day pass rather than purchasing bus and ropeway tickets individually as it is cheaper....More

Visited on 3rd October. Long but scenic day trip from Takayama by bus. Beautiful views on a clear day - went to the top and hiked for an hour and half up and hour down to the Nishiho mountain hut on top of the mountain...More

We were staying in Takayama and took a bus to the Shinhotaka Ropeway as we read is was a must-see in the area. It definitely did not disappoint. You feel like you are on top of the world and the panoramic mountain views took our...More

We really enjoyed our trip to the Shinhotaka ropeway - we were staying in a nearby ryokan and were able to get the bus which was about a 15 minute journey. I would point out that had we been staying in Takayama and made the...More

Great view for the top, but you better have some walking/running shoes on if you want to go up the hill. It is quiet rocky. The service is good at the rope way and you can buy food and stuff uphill too.

Really disappointing experience with inconsistent messaging from staff. One sign says No. 2 ropeway closed due to maintenance, another says closed to due strong wind and another simply saying the ropeway will stop. Staff unable to communicate effectively with some telling people to wait while...More

Since it has been open since ancient times, you should make it a little cheaper. Recently the number of people who came from foreign countries is on the rise, I think that half of the current fee is also good.

Went up on a day when it was drizzling, but the view was really fantastic with the peaks of the mountains draped with snow. There are two ropeway rides with the much talked about double decker one being the second. However the bus ride from...More

Very nice ride up the mountain as you are feasted with beautiful arial view of the surrounding. The cable car brings you up to a very high altitude where clouds and mountain tops are seen at eye level. Rather cold up on the viewing deck...More

That's an easy day's plan if you are driving yourself (30 minutes Hirayu to Shinhotaka, 60-90 minutes from Shinhotaka to Hida Folk Village). You would have time to spend a couple of hours+ at both places which is adequate... More
