Beautiful park & so incredibly wild & vast. Comfortable tented camp at Chipinda Pools & lots of elephants and hippos and other game. Heard the lion’s roar in the middle of the night but didn’t manage to see any, although according to others in the camp site they had been through the camp the day. Chilojo Cliffs a must see. So incredibly majestic. Loved it. Will definitely be back.

Hidden in Gonarezhou is the Chilojo Cliffs which have a stunning view along Runde River. Its a very nice picnic spot. U can see animals coming to drink water including elephants.

I cannot explain how much I loved this park. The wildlife might not be as abundant as Kruger National or Chobe, but the isolation makes it well worth the while. We did however see lion, elephant (lots- beware, some of them weren't as eager to see us compared to the tamer Kruger elephants), large herds of buffalo and the most incredible variety of bird life. We saw a host of other game, particularly in the far north east section of the park and were on the track of the wild dog, but somehow just missed them every time. We spent the majority of our trip in the northern part of the park, camping in the exclusive campsites. Each camp site is different- from sleeping right next to a pan to watching the sunset over the Chilojo cliffs. I would return to this park over any other park that I have visited (I have almost completed the whole Sanparks range in South Africa and most of the Botswana reserves). Again, don't expect abundance of show stopper game (lion, leopard, wild dog etc), but the satisfaction of finding them in such isolation is something that you will never forget.

We visited Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe as part of a trip in Southern Africa. We also did the annual game count whilst we were there. Gonarezhou is spectacular. The roads are very bad, so you need a 4x4. We did not have any mechanical problems. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We stayed at Shimuwini, Chipinda pools and Masasanya Mananga camp at the dam. It was a true wilderness experience.
