Kawah Ratu was really beautiful, full of hot springs and warm mud. With all the vapour in the air, it was an exciting experience. There weren't many people either, so my friend and I could go exploring the scenery up there undisturbed.
We had a guide from the city Bogor (Tourist Information Center), Alex is his name, and the trek to the Kawah Ratu was part of it. It took about 3 hours up and 2,5 hours down. Wearing our trekking shoes was really a good idea as the path was sometimes slippery or we even walked along a little brook.
There is no food selling up there, the last chance to buy something is down at the camping ground.

We hiked around for about 3 hours and saw some waterfalls. The forest and waterfalls were beautiful, and there were a lot of food stands, so you don’t need to bring too much food; However, we didn’t make it to the summit, so this only applies to shorter hikes around the mountain. If you are going to the summit you should pack food and maybe a tent.

Me and my friends had an amazing time in the rainforest. The day to day plan itself was better than I could imagine, and with a crew that really does everything they can to make your stay as good as posible it’s hard to not have an amazing time!
From the program my favorite part has to be the volcano trip. I had the best time. Amazing hike, great company and incredible service. Othervise my favorite has to be just hanging out in nature, the people living around us and the good conversations with the people making out stay so amazing.
Thank you so much Wandi for an amazing stay!

This should be a comfortable hike for most able bodied people. Slight physical exertion but does not require any technical gear, just the right climbing shoes due to stony path

I think, this place is actually not a place for family trip with kids <8yo or for those who seeks for a leisure.
It’s quite near but quite hard and long enough to get there, and the place is more likely a playground for adventurer or researcher or outdoor enthusiast.
I went there on April this year, on motorcycle. The trees, tea plantation, fresh air, rivers, cliffs, paddy field were all amazingly beautiful. But the road was truly a factor to consider.
If you go there by car, it has to be the one with high clearance and 4x4 will make it suitable during rainy season because unpaved road with boulder and clay are dominating the way there and it’s so slippery.
If you use a motorcycle, then off road type or at least dual sport motorcycle is the suitable one. A normal on road bike will likely take your energy too much and too soon (happened to me, LOL).
I didn’t spend a night there because there was no place to stay overnight. There was a place actually, a research station. But it was fully occupied so I couldn’t get any room.
There are several villages where you can stay overnight in local houses, but it was not in my plan.
All in all, Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun is a wonderful and adventurous place to visit.
All the terrain, the trees, the very humble and very friendly people, and the special eternal mist makes it all worth to try.
Just prepare your vehicle, gasoline, extra energy, extra food / water and off you go.
But PLEASE MAKE SURE you won’t leave any garbage or do anything to harm the environment because it is a conservation area for some rare plants and animals.
Enjoy it’s beauty and help to preserve.

Thanks to Mr.Edu from Java Private Tour who arranged the planning of climbing 3 mountains in Bogor (Salak, Gede, and Pangrango Mountain) to be realized and run well. Climbing and adventure me and my friends from Singapore was very memorable, this is one of my dreams from childhood to explore the tropical rain forests and mountains on the island of Java. At another time I will return to visit Indonesia, especially Java, to explore the mountains and other tropical rain forests.

Well organized and thought through tour! EVERYTHING you need is included, from snacks to a place to sleep. Our tour guide Wandi was very knowledgeable and caring and our driver Omay felt like a safe driver (which can not be said of all drivers we experienced during our trip). Worth taking notice of is that day 2 (in the 3 day package) do require a certain amount of physical shape, since it is pretty long.
Put on your hiking boots and book the tour, you will indeed get your moneys worth! Great experience!

Agus Pribadi was my tour guide and he did an excellent job of showing the attractions of the area and choosing a lovely home stay in the heart of the park where it was possible to take a trek through the unspoilt jungle. This comes highly recommended.

Hey John,
I will be i Java in Oktober and at the moment I am looking for some trekking tours through the rainforest. Your trip sounds quite interesting. Did I understand correctly, that you didn't hire a guide and went by yourself? Is it easy?
Do you maybe have some other recomandations in Java (regarding rainforests).
Thanks a lot!

It's cheap but you choose to be in danger if you use a motorbike, especially if you are carrying supplies and climbing equipment, just try to contact Java Private Tour, a car rental service company and driver, as well as a professional guide and all the climbing equipment has been provided by Java Private Tour
