We came here to book a ticket from Delhi to Jaipur as we were flying out of Kochi the next day and hadn't been able to book it ourselves through the official app because we didn't have an Indian sim yet. The man wasn't upfront about his commission and ended up charging us OVER 400rp extra when the tickets themselves cost only 292rp each. The official printout stated his commision should have only been 110rp...Complete ripoff, very disappointing experience for us. DO NOT GO THERE get an Indian sim and download the app.

One of the oldest streets in Kochi, Princess street is lined with European style houses. The facades are often 'Indianized', but still the ambience is rather distinct from other parts of town. Many shops and businesses like hotels and restaurants are geared to tourists. Price levels are higher as well, though by Western standards what is on offer is often still good value.
Not my favourite part of town, as travelling all the way to South India to visit a place closest in style to the West, is not what I came for. My Indian firends loved the place.

There are some cafes and a hotel or three on the street, as well as the inevitable art shops. A lot less hectic than New Town, but similar wares. Good spot to go and choose a dinner cafe.

Our hotel was on Princess street so we got to walk it and enjoy it many times. Many lovely stores with souvenirs and clothes. Old Jewish merchant house is very interesting as it has a connection corridor between two buildings.
Safe to walk even at night.
Retained the climate of old Kochi - Indian but with European touch.

We stayed 2 nights at Forte Kochi hotel on Princess Street. Nice shops and close to the beach. Different from streets around and pleasant to walk . It's short street maybe 150 meters long.

Princess Street is located just around the corner from the Old Harbour Hotel. It’s a interesting street to stroll down as there are numerous upmarket stores selling good quality clothes , shawls, leather items and antiques.

Odd to think that Princess Street is an attraction in itself? Not sure why. It is really just a short little road, with a couple of shops. Really, it should be considered as part of the overall Fort area.
Ok, so about Princess street :
1. About 400m long
2. Got a few tourist shops
3. Got a couple of Cafes
There we are. Reviewed!
Why did I write the above? Just to indicate to those wondering whether to come, that they should set their expectations at appropriate levels. Yes, it is cute, yes it is quite pretty. But, you will not need an afternoon to see it. By all means have a look if you are nearby, but don't base your whole day around it.

Princess Street is a short walk from our hotel at Burgar Street. . The prices here are higher than elsewhere and you need to haggle to get a bargain. Stanley Wilson's travel agency is located here; we booked our 3D2N Munnar tour here and it was one of the highlights of our trip. There are restaurants and cafes on both sides of the Street. We tried Elite Hotel Restaurant and we were very satisfied with the food and service.

The first homestay we stayed in Kochi was Tag Und Nacht, which is located opposite the Naval Museum on Beach Street. We moved out after one night because we found that it was quite a distance from town — there were no restaurants, internet cafes or shops nearby.
The second place we stayed in was Elite Hotel on Princess Street. Don’t be fooled as Elite Hotel isn’t really a “hotel” but more of a travellers’ lodge. There’s a restaurant downstairs that we frequented, and there’s an internet cafe right next door (and another one a few doors away), and we even managed to buy our train tickets from the agent at the internet cafe! There are quite a few shops along Princess Street and there’s also a hairdresser (for women only) and an art gallery. There are a few restaurants nearby too. And most importantly, there is a very friendly tour agent called Augustine (his workspace a.k.a. office is in the same premise) who recommends tour packages and who is always ready to suggest some places to visit or shops to go to.
Most of the tourist attractions are within walking distance from Princess Street, but it isn't too expensive to hire an auto. An auto driver approached us and offered to take us to the various tourist attractions in Fort Cochin and Mattancherry for only Rs 100 (approximately USD 2.20). And true enough, our driver Rinu, took us to places like the St. Francis Church where Vasco da Gama was originally buried, the Indo-Portuguese Museum, the Santacruz Basilica, as well as to some cemeteries, temples, Paradesi Synagogue, spice markets and bazaars. He also waited for us while we took our time whenever we visited the museum, or whenever we were busy bargaining in the bazaars.
At the end of the day, we decided to pay him more than he asked for, for taking us around. Plus, we thought that Rs 100 was too little for somebody who drives you around for about 6 hours!
But before you hop onto an auto-rickshaw, please ask the driver how much he is charging you. Only board the rickshaw if you are agreeable with the price. Also, your rickshaw driver will probably take you to “higher-end” bazaars to shop though you repeatedly ask him to take you to cheaper markets. That’s because he gets to collect points when he takes tourists to these bazaars, and for every 5 points of so, he could get a liter of fuel or something.
