A huge complex with a pond which is one of the important landmark built during the Sultanate Period.
Bit away from Ahmedabad in Makarba village but road connectivity is good.
Places of importance are:
1. Tomb of Sultan Mahmud Begada and others
2. Jama Masjid (huge courtyard, active mosque, women not allowed inside the prayer hall)
3. Dargah of Hazrat Shaikh Ahmed Khattu Ganj Bakhs RA
4. King's and Queen's Palace (in ruins and on the other end of the pond. Accessible by a separate path way ahead of the Sarkhej Roza main entry)
5. Small museum depicting Holy Quran (old collections from that era), paintings showing the days when this place was at its peak and history behind the monuments, plus Queen Tombs
Overall its worth a visit but the adjacent pond is quite dirty with foul smell. Hope it gets cleaned soon.
Visited in the afternoon on a weekday, hence crowd was almost nil.

Again I heard a lot about in online reviews so despite the rickshaw drivers feedback I still went to sarkhej Roja . There was some meeting going on so it was quite crowded. The men were in the meeting in the inside courtyard while the women and the children played in the main courtyard. Some areas were prohibited for women and I went near the main worship area I was being told firmly but kindly that I can pray from outside while my husband went inside. He told me I didn't miss much. Also while I waited the caretaker/priest who stopped kindly related to me one of the local tales regarding the mosque's construction.
Overall the place was in a dilapidated condition. I couldn't even find my way to the main lake since most of the doors were locked and the crowd around didn't look too helpful.

This is one of the best places, a complex of several buildings consisting of a mosque, tomb, water tank and several other structures. The main complex is built next to a water-body, on the other side of which are two excellent pavilions/ summer palaces. Visit the place just before the sunset and try to capture the sunset behind those pavilions, you will have a picture worth lifetime of memory. Of course, the main complex wil also engage you with camera.
If interested, try to understand the sultanate time water supply and conservation system and its utilisation by building beautiful structures around such systems to add aesthetics to the functionality.
carry your food/ water with you or buy water from nearby shops outside, but don't rely on food being sold there. Friday - saturday - sunday can be bit crowded at times.

This is again a Jain temple overtook by Muslim rulers and converted into mosque, is clearly visible. Why historians and guides don't mention it, I wonder. Such architecture is purely Jainism style. Request all ppl out there to mention the same in it's description.

Apart from the Sabarmati Ashram, this is one of those rare places where you can have some time to be with yourself.
The place is mosque and is spread-ed out in a vast area giving a scenic view.
This place recalls the times of ancestral architecture.

Nice for an evening outing with family. A visit during monsoon is better as the adjacent lake would be full.

16th century structure very poorly maintained and encroached from all sides. Ladies are not allowed inside the shrine!
The building is not very impressive other than its jaali-work on windows. In absence of any maintenance it is a place where hardly anybody goes.
Not worth a visit especially if you are with children or elderly people. Women are anyhow not allowed inside the shrine.

a place not visited by many, is such a pretty sight. it is a heritage site where during the earthquake the pillars were damaged, now restored. the craftsmanship and the water body and the whole place, its a positive energy and calm place. lovely for couples who will feel the place has 'love in the air' !

Yes, Morning is good due to hot weather. Also, try to avoid Friday afternoon because of prayers. Any morning is good!
