About
Trsat Castle represents a strategically embossed gazebo on a hill 138 meters above sea level that dominates Rijeka. As a parochial centre it was mentioned for the first time in 1288. Trsat Castle is one of the oldest fortifications on the Croatian Coast, where the characteristics of the early medieval town construction have been preserved. Today Trsat Castle, beside the Bazilisk souvenir shop and the Gradina coffee bar, is enriched with new facilities – gallery space where art exhibitions are held as well as open-air summer concerts and theatre performances as well as fashion shows and Literary evenings. Within Trsat Castle, at the Petra Zrinskog b.b. Address, is the Trsat Castle Info Point where any information about this building and the town of Rijeka can be found.

The 559 steps (fortunately in the shade) and the difference in height made on a scorching July day, have repaid us with a visit (free, and that's no small thing) to this castle that is really very well maintained. From its tower you can enjoy a view of the whole city and its surroundings. Definitely worth a visit.

The view is a bit far from the center of the city. But it's warth visiting. If you are confident to climb up to the mountain, of course there are bus line, I recommend the visitors to go on foot.
The castle itself is free entrance, you can exploar freely. I hope you to stop by the cafe and enjoy drinking.

If you are in Rijeka / Kvarner area, this is a must see!
The curch is a pilgrimage point, visited even by Pope John Paul II. It features long and interesting history.
And don't miss great castle nearby offering stunning view over the city of Rijeka. You might even try walking down 561 stairs...

Greatly renowated, perfect for taking pictures and looking over the town. Was a bit dissapointed because they don't seem to have a coffie/bar anymore. Was perfect for quiet morrning coffee with a view. They could sell place much more with a decent story and a guided tour. No entty fee thou.

Trsat Castle (Croatian: Trsatski kaštel) is a historic, reconstructed castle on Trsat Hill above Rijeka. Admission is free and it is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. There is a courtyard café and from the battlements and terrace there are great views of the city and the sea.

It is a truly suggestive place from which you can enjoy the panorama of the city of Rijeka. It can be reached on foot, thanks to a very long staircase. Due to my advanced age and the sultry heat of the day, I took bus No. 2 Trsat: fast and very comfortable. There is also a nice bar to refresh the tired and hot.

A lovely place to have a good glass of wine with a friend. Exactly what happened to me when I was there in July 2023.
The castle and its small village, which can be visited freely, have an enchanting view of the city of Rijeka.
Currently the location is managed with a bar/pub with both outdoor and indoor seating and a series of tables on the terraces from which it is possible to enjoy the beautiful view while sipping something.
A special place.

A must-see in Rijeka! If you can catch a concert or an event on the Trsat Castle you're gonna have an amazing time. The view is also great and would recommend. Its not very large tho and not a lot to see.

Not much is left from the old fort, but the ruins are very romantic. It has some sculptures and engravings that give a magic touch, but most of all, it´s a beautiful viewpoint for a panoramic shoot of Rijeka.
Weather permitting, the cafe should be a great place to have a drink, but not on the Summer heat we faced.
It´s basically a location for weddings, cocktails, small concerts and other gatherings.

We took a 20 minute local bus ride up to Trsat Castle situated on a hill overlooking the town.
The Castle seems to be mainly used for functions, weddings, parties etc. It is not a particularly good tourist destination with a few accessible walls and views but little else. Best part is it is free.
Probably not worth the bus ride.
