Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You can certainly book food tours in many holiday destinations, but in Chengdu it is a special treat, as the Szechuan cuisine is particularly refined and varied. There is even a museum dedicated to it in the north of the city. Whilst we were familiar with dishes such as hotpot and dandan noodles, we discovered other delicacies on this tour as well - such as giant asparagus (the green in kungpao chicken), rabbit head (surprisingly delicious) and jelly-like noodles.
As tourism is only slowly picking up again in Chengdu, we were pleasantly surprised that my partner and I were alone with our tour guide Ree. She speaks perfect English and was able to tell us a lot about the history as well as private anecdotes about the food we ate and catered to our individual needs. The afternoon with Ree felt informal and relaxed. Apart from the fantastic food, it was also very nice to get to know a local and learn more about life in Chengdu.
We can highly recommend the tour - you will go places and eat things that you wouldn't discover on your own.

It was a great food tour. My guide, Lee, is very knowledgeable and was great in explaining the history of the food items we had. We went to a few restaurants and also tasted some of the street food available at the wet market. The best part was, of course, the hotpot :)
Lee also suggested a few more bars/restaurants that i visited on my own. Her recommendations were really good. Overall a great experience and i would definitely recommend to do this tour.

This tour is great for new visitors to Chengdu or a fun evening for Chengdu veterans.
The guide is exceptional combining cultural, historical, and interesting facts with each different food.

Great food, Brilliant knowledgeable guide, Overall an awesome experience.
We visited 6+ places, learned a lot about the food culture and the history of Chengdu.
These guys also have a online shop with some infused baijiu that is very tasty.
I've just uploaded a couple of photos as part of the experience is the discovery/surprise. Just know that there will be something for everyone.

What a great fun and enjoyable tour. We ate some of the best meals in Chengdu. I would recommend this to all my friends. Xiao Shuang was an excellent guide. She gave us a fun tour of Chengdu and gave us an insight into the history of this beautiful city.

We had an excellent evening tour with Xiao. She tailored the experience to our preferences, was very friendly and informative and spoke fluent English. We learned a lot about Chengdu food culture, including markets and restaurants that we wouldn’t have found on our own. Highly recommended.

I arrived in Chengdu just as Covid-19 restrictions were easing. Most tour companies were not operating because, well, there were no tourists. There were no other people signed up for a tour but Chengdu Food Tours decided to accommodate me and though I paid significantly more than if I was part of a group I appreciated their gesture and it was worth every penny.
Xiao Shuang, my guide was superb. Her English was impeccable, her knowledge of the cuisine was first-rate, and her enthusiasm for her work was authentic.
The tour itself lasted several hours and included ten dishes, two street food snacks, a walking tour of a farmers (wet) market which included the option to sample several types of baijiu (potent Chinese liquor), several cuts of cooked meat, a rabbit head, and various fruits and peppercorns. I also received a gift bag that included peppercorn cookies and a small bottle of baijiu -- a very nice touch.
The food was absolutely delicious. It was a great way to familiarize myself with famous and not-so-famous Sichuan dishes. Every dish was very palatable - incredibly tasty and zesty but not overwhelmingly spicy.
Xiao Shuang followed up with a text message to ensure that I had I got back to my hotel. I woke up to another message that included the names of all the dishes we had experienced. She even went above-and-beyond by finding out information for me regarding panda sanctuaries and jazz bars.
I would highly recommend this company if Xiao Shuang is an example of the kind of service they provide.

The Chengdu Food Tour was the highlight of our time in Chengdu, and frankly, the highlight of our month in China! We went to so many different eateries - from street food vendors to sit down restaurants, and sampled the best of the food that Chengdu has to offer (dan dan noodles, BBQ rabbit, mapo tofu, gong bao chicken, thousand year old eggs, and so much more). It was a multi-hour feast and also a fantastic learning experience. I went with my 11 year old son who enjoyed it just as much (he avoided the spicy food and still had plenty to eat). Our guide was so knowledgeable. There were two other families on our tour and it was a fantastic opportunity to also meet others traveling in China and dine together.

Our experience with Chengdu Food Tours was great! My fiance, future father-in-law and I visited Chengdu in December 2019 and went on a private tour with Xiao. She was an excellent tour guide - extremely knowledgeable, friendly and warm. We had such a great time wandering from spot to spot, getting a real insiders glimpse into Sichuan cuisine. Xiao was more than happy to tailor the tour to our liking. I highly recommend the company and booking a tour when you are in Chengdu.

Hi,
I have heard about a wonderful dumpling place in Chengdu where as its in an area that is not promoted and you need to climb a ladder and enter through a window.
Is this place known about and/or or the Foodie Tours or can anyone visit and eat there?
We only have a short stay in Chengdu coming up soon.
Thanks for any information.
