Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We did a 9 day tour staring in Chendu, then went to Kanding, Tagong, Danba, and finally the 4 sisters Mountain and back to Chengdu. Tsering, our Tibetan guide was great. She took good care of us, spoke excellent English, Tibetan, and Mandarin, which allowed us to seeing amazing places off the beaten track. Highlight of the trip was going to Danba, a fruit growing farming region on the side of a mountain. Views were spectacular, drive was so diverse. Food was good, although we were ready for some different food by the end of the trip. Pizza in Chengdu was need when we got back! We loved the trip, would definitely recommend Extravagant Yak. When horseback riding, make sure you ask you long the ride is, we paid a little too much for a very short ride in Tagong, but had much better value in the 4 sister mountain.

Hi Mike, thanks for the feedback! So glad you and your teaching friends jumped on the short flight from Hong Kong to taste Tibetan culture and the alpine wonderland out here! Hope to see you again!

This was my 3rd trip to Tibet with Extravagant Yak and I knew that planning, service and execution will be flawless. After acclimatising in Lhasa with visiting the cultural sights of the city, this trip was special as it was centered around 8 days of trekking the East face of Mt Everest which included demanding logistics. However, Jim, his team and the local Tibetan guides, drivers, yak men and amazing cooks created yet another epic adventure for me and our entire group. If you love demanding trekking, have a longing to visit Tibet, and don't have the luxury of a lot of travel time, this 14-day itinerary is exactly what you are looking for. I will be back.

As an avid cyclist, my experience with Extravagant Yak was incredible! I had the most amazing ride exploring Chengdu and the surrounding villages. Not only did it meet my expectations, it was super FUN! I wanted a challenging bike ride with an opportunity for cultural immersion. From start to finish, I couldn't have asked for anything better. Jim was super accommodating when I ran into challenges prior to my planned trip, arranging to have my bike brought to me at the hostel when I couldn't make our original meeting point. Jacob was equally accommodating - as well as a knowlededgeable, talented guide and fun cycling companion. We biked nearly ten hours - probably, the best ride ever! I would recommend Extravagant Yak to anyone wishing for a unique cycling experience amidst a beautiful backdrop - and customer service is outstanding! I hope to be blessed to have another opportunity to ride with Extravagant Yak, again!

As a professional rider, I'm fortunate to travel a lot, but it's rarely ever stress-free. Extravagant Yak exceeded my expectations and made their tour the best time possible for everyone involved. The culture, schedule, group dynamic, and locations we got to experience made this backcountry adventure one of my favourite trips ever.

Extravagant Yak couldn't have been more helpful. From the first email communication to the last goodby, they were very proactive and totally interested in our welfare. We still are amazed at what we saw and the graciousness of our guide and driver. Tibet as a country and as a culture was a delight to experience. We found the Tibetan people to be friendly and their food most enjoyable.
If you even have a small desire to see one very special country, Extravagant Yak is the way to go. They made the paperwork and process uncomplicated.
Standing at the base of Everest is worth the effort, as you marvel at the surroundings and the majesty of the mountains. Worth the effort and the time it took to get used to the altitude. Don't rush the journey, just DO IT!

I had a great time touring the city on a bicycle. Tashi was knowledgable and good at cycling. We saw the sites and had a relaxing cup of tea in the park.

Could this experience with this company get any better!

My mate and I knew we had a 18hr layover in Chengdu, we knew we had to make the most of it. Blessed to find Extravagant Yak! I contacted Jim in hopes to make a reservation with their bamboo bike city tour within only a week of our flight. Due to the sudden notice, and unforeseen illnesses, he informed us he had no English speaking tour guides available. Lucky my mate and I are understanding and flexible. Because Jim offered us the opportunity to get a bike tour with one of the bamboo bike maintenance workers Jake. Jim, nore Jake had to agree to this and I’m glad they did! They even arranged to meet my mate and I at the airport to be helped through the subway system to their office a few stations over, as well as to be escorted back. Being the first time in a China, it was ensuring to have a helpful hand during this process.

The experience on that tour was nothing but excellent! From the start to the finish! Even though their was a slight language barrier, no moments were dull nore stupped by it. Jake made sure he did his best to accommodate our wants and needs in anyway, he was straight awesome! He brought along a photographer friend as well that brought much history and pointed out landmarks. I’d get a beer with them anytime!

If you are considering this company and have any others in mind, highly consider Extravagant Yak!

Their bamboo bikes are high quality, smooth, and comfortable. My mate and I even want to own one in the future, which I know you can purchase online.

Overall, just know that this isn’t some rushed boring tour. They really treat you like a group of friends on a stroll through the city. Ready to accommodate you towards your point of interests and paste.

Thanks Extravagant Yak; Jim, Jake, and Heidou!

The process for foreigners to ride to Lhasa is complicated and not at all transparent. The guys at Extravagant Yak handled it for us and provided a guide (Lobsang) and a driver (Dadong) who knew the dialects and the villages and who provided exceptional support on the road. This was a trip of a lifetime and it couldn't have happened without the Extravagant Yak team! I can't recommend them enough.
