Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Floor 2 is the self-guided tour with a talking speaker triggered as you move around. Sometimes gets mixed up and repeats the same segment. Easier than someone translating. The 3rd and 4th floors rotate exhibits. Currently a Chinese puppet history. Interesting but not exciting. Reservations required in advance.

September 2019 - seem to be fairly major interior works going on and the place is closed. It was a fairly long subway ride, so disappointing. On a Sunday, there was a very small craft market in the courtyard.

This museum might help you kill an hour. Nothing terribly special here, unless perhaps you read Chinese, in which case you might get a bit more out of it. As the name of the facility suggests, it covers Dalian modern history, mid-19th to mid-20th century. Basically, the museum is an overview of the Chinese struggle against imperialism and the glorification of the CCP. Best thing is -- it's free and has aircon.

This is a good place to go in Dalian. You need 1,5h to visit it, basically the museum has 5 floors, but only have things on 2nd floor. Everything is in Chinese, so you need to rent the Audio Guide, is 30 rmb and 200 rmb of deposit. We liked the place, even I am not a person that likes so much visit museums.

I have been there a couple of times and always something new and fresh. The entrance is free and although everything is in Chinese but still there is a lot about past and present Dalian.

A thorough account of the history of Dalian. Alas, there are no English explanations so we had to rely on our general knowledge to make sense of it, Interesting photos, They could provide a brief explanation in English

Clearly this is one of my favourite places to be because of the beautiful exterior view of the museum!)) The columns of the museum cover nearly half of the whole square! It was very nice to see. Then inside, you can find many portraits as well as sculptures of local young artists from the art academy of Dalian! Overall, it's amazing!

This museum tells modern history about modern China in addition to various art exhibits.

Most visitors are surprised to learn the atrocity committed by Japanese from late 19th Century to the closing of the Second World War.

This museum is FREE and near the subway station.

For those that plan to visit Lu Shun, please note the memorial tomb of the Chinese massacre by Japanese troops are closed on Tue. It is just up the hill from the long distance bus station.

This museum has so much potential that it was disappointing to find that only one, of four, floors was open. This housed an interesting collection of photos and objects on the history of Dalian, but captions and explanations were only in Chinese. Yet I still recommend you visit this museum and combine it with a visit to Xinghai Square.

If you like museums, you'll like this one. If you speak only English, just remember to pick up a pamphlet before heading upstairs. It'll help you know what each room is about, since all the plaques are in Chinese. Nice collection on the history of Dalian from 1840-1945
