Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dadonghai Beach is a nice, sandy beach with numerous restaurants and "beach bars" nearby (wouldn't really call these beach bars, more like tiny shops where you might be able to buy a beer or two). A few places offer sunbeds, but except for maybe one place that belongs to some hotel, the rest only have wooden sunbeds that are quite uncomfortable and somewhat dirty / old-looking.

Now, to the main point: you won't be allowed near the water if the weather is a little windy or it's after 6:30 / 7:00pm. Lifeguards will forcibly close off the beach with ropes. Having stayed at a hotel nearby, we noticed that the beach was closed off about 3-4 times a week. The beach itself is otherwise great for a swim.

Arrived in Sanya Feb 4th to a closed beach, it's roped off at all entrances with a couple of lifeguards with bullhorns who yell at anyone they see on the beach. It's a
long beach, a half mile or so, and at the end near the piers a few others and I swam and sunbathed every day for a week without being harrased. A few times I was the only one on the beach and in the water. I'm sure that'll never happen again. I thank the corona virus scare for that priviledge. Anyway, all the bars, restaurants, and shops fronting the beach are closed except for a few. No one can say for sure when the powers that be will open the beach again, so call ahead before coming.

As a North American I love Sanya. It's become my new Hawaii (5 times to hawaii) Hawaii got so expensive I could only afford to go a week. Sanya is far cheaper and allows me to stay at gorgeous Marriott hotel for 2 weeks with breakfast and just as much sun. I love beach lover bar , dolphin bar, some of the best Italian food I have eaten at Casa Mia (owned by china and Italy couple). Yes there are red Russians here that are burnt...unfortunately the locals deal with them but they are not well liked. So wear your country's shirt and and identify yourself as not Russian. A taxi driver said and his fellow taxi drivers said if you are a white guy flagging them down outside a bar they drive by in fears of getting ripped off by another drunk Russian..Sorry to be blunt but that's your tip.

The beach is pretty busy and swimming is prohibited in quite a few stretches due to riptide. If you are staying in the area or are nearby and want a quick dip this would be an option. There are quite a few beach side restaurants, bars and shops that were mostly Chinese style.

The beach is not perfect but still worth a visit. Massive amount of the restaurants next to the beach take away the appeal. Very busy in parts. Could not see showers that worked. In the evening watched some surfers have some fun. Lots of stones about in the water other beaches are better for swimming.

Had a sketch made by the beach and then went for a stroll to enjoy the breeze off the water and the scenic water views.

Dirty, poor, lots of things, lots of beggars, people stealing shots of you and then pretending money, lots of beach bars full of drunken and unruly beach goers, lots of broken glasses and dog faeces everywhere. No lifeguards around and overpriced food and drinks. 12 rmb for a tiger from a sundry shop? Absolutely dishonest.

I would hate to be travelling anywhere in china speaking no chinese. I'm with my girlfriend who is chinese speaks mandarin, cantonese and 5 dialects, one of which is very close to the local dialect so she could understand the brazen scams as the locals assume no-one can speak their language.
This is really a 90% chinese only holiday destination with the other 9% middle aged fat russians. Hainan relatively speaking from a mainland chinese point of view is a fantastic location compared to where they live. Hence the high rating from the chinese. From a western point of view it is so low to be virtually unrateable. Nobody smiles, it is all about the rip off, overpriced, no-body gives a toss, everyone spits weird red spit on the white painted trees so it looks like some paintball addict has gone a rampage. Taxis are very difficult to get... the boardwalk is ok until everyone comes out at night to trash the place.
Cannot find a single attraction that is not overcrowded or worth going too.
the absolute classic scam is a lot of the cheap hotels and inns are not actually that. They are converted rooms in hotel blocks. when the reception is on the 8th floor and you are greeted by laundry be advised and leave immeaditely. The absolute favourite scam that did happen to us twice a day is when you go to a restaurant. They give you a menu and when you finish the meal the bill is not as expected. when you complain different menu is shown with different prices. Advice. order the meal and then sit on the menu you ordered from. Pisses them off no end. Compared to Sanya ,main beach, Dadonghai is paradise. Sanya main beach is like entering the twilight zone. My girlfriend described it as soulless and creepy. Example. We went into a hotel. must have have 700 rooms which is about 1/10th the norm. Couldn't get a room. The place was full according to the staff. Yet the chairs in the restaurant were stacked, the pool was empty, the car park was empty and nobody except the receptionist was there. It was a ghost town. We left real quick.
In conclusion it is like Sharm el sheik without the attractions or vibe, it like hawaii without clean water or the mountains or any of the entertainments. Compared to the beaches in Hong kong it is heaven..Caveat emptor. We are out of here in two days and have booked a holiday in egypt to relax as this was not a holiday by any stretch of the imagination. Almost, forgot watch out for the pickpockets. The highlight of the trip was watching a punchup outside the "walking street jewellery market" in Sanya. Two want to be martial arts dudes drove their cars into each other. Then got out started screaming at each other. Within 2 minutes there were 35 cops on the scene and then they started taking bets on who would win....the crowd just video taped the weirdness. Truly nobody gives a toss.

Last winter vacation,I and my family went to the Sanya. We had a flight to the Sanya and when we arrived there,it's in the afternoon. We went to our house, and put something in house then we dicided to go to the beach. There was a little cold,so you can bring some sweater was enough.
There are so many people there. So we took a lot of photos there at first. The views there was so beautiful. Then when the people less,we swam in the sea.And also I played some games with my mother and father.Such as catch the ball who through into the sea. That's so fun.
At night, there were so many restaurants near the sea.We chose a restaurant and had lots of seafood. That's so delicious!
By the way,if you want to buy some seafoods. There also has a big seafood market. The foods such as fishs and lobsters is very fresh.

Last winter vacation, I went to Hainan province with my family .We arrived there at 7:00am. It was sunny and hot, so we decided to go to the beach near our hotel. My family and I tried to play sand volley ball. It was so fun! After finished playing volley ball, we all felt a little tired. So we started lying on the beach and enjoyed the sunshine. It was really comfortable! At lunch ,we had a special local food—coconut rice. It’s just a bowl of normal rice but which is in the coconut shell. After steamed in the steamer, the rice will turns in to coconut’s flavor. We also had some coconut milk and kernel after that. They tastes really good!
In the afternoon, we decided to go to the biggest aquarium in Hainan province, called “the Ocean world”. The creatures there are various. We saw many kinds of interesting ocean creatures, such as whales, sharks, dolphins, even squids. There are also a subsea tunnel in the aquarium under the ground. You can see a lot of special ocean creatures there. It’s really interesting!

Tips: Try to find a proper time or buy the tickets on the internet before you decided to go these places, or you will drown in a sea of people!
