This park boasts multiple entrances, but we chose to venture towards the captivating Martin Brod waterfalls. As we approached from Drvar, a peculiar abandoned asphalt road led the way, seemingly devoid of any signs of civilization. Doubt may have crept in, but soon a quaint village emerged, revealing the entrance to the breathtaking waterfalls. The River Una gracefully cascaded through the landscape, offering not only mesmerizing waterfalls but also a picturesque natural setting. Additionally, the area offered the chance to purchase delightful local products and experience the charm of old-school restaurants. Accommodation options were available as well, making it a perfect rural retreat that won't break the bank. A place to truly escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. We've heard that other entrances to the park are equally exceptional, promising even more remarkable adventures amidst the unspoiled wonders of nature.

Beautiful waterfalls in a beautiful natural environment.
Compared to Plitvice very cheap, 40 EUR pp (Plitvice) vs 4 EUR (Una)
The disadvantage is the very poor facilities and the 8 km access road where there are few places where one can cross oncoming traffic

I visited this beautiful river and its waterfalls (Strbacki buk) and I must admit it's most beautiful river that I've ever seen. These waterfalls are one of the biggest in Europe, they are even more beautiful than Skradinski buk on th river Krka in Croatia. The whole area is clean, with great green places for taking a rest. They made nice wooden stairs that follows waterfalls and it's really incredible when you watch this amazing river, falling down with the waterfalls (25 m high). I was with my family, we were in the village Martinbrod (also a part of national park), it was also very nice there. The river flows through the village and makes little waterfalls all over this place. We also saw one biger waterfall, it's impresive, but not like Strbacki buk. We agreed that we must come back and visited this beautful river, and this wonderful country. Bosnia is really something different, still poor country (economical) but very rich with its great spirit. People are pleasant, they will talk with you about everything and help you in anytime. I truly hope this magical country will shine very soon and finally get normal standard for living... This people deserve it more than anybody!!

After visiting Plitvice the previous day we were travelling through Bihac in Bosnia and decided to visit Una National Park.
Whilst the road is not great - make sure you use entrance 2 as we told by the ranger the road to entrance 1 is a very bad road (we were just lucky we missed the first turnoff).
This is a completely different experience from Plitvice as no people and just as beautiful. 6 Bosnian Marks (3Euro) to enter.
If you are in the vicinity must see the Una river and falls. Picnic spots to pull into and almost guarantee you will be on your own.

The park is georgous and the best attractions are the waterfalls Strbacki buk and Martin Brod.
Everybody has already described how beautiful it is, so I will focus on some tips and tricks. My starting point was Bihac.
It is best to enter the park at Dobovsko, because that is a asphalt road. This is entrance 2. Don't take entrance 1, is is along dirt road.
When you are at Orasac, you will see a sign were you need to turn right for Strbacki buk. You will have to drive on a 8km dirt road. It is not too bad, all cars can go here.
After you have visited Strbacki buk, you have to go the same dirt road back and head towards Kulen Vakuf (so right at the end if the dirt road). You can go into the town and climb to a beautiful ruin of a fortress called Ostrovica. The climb is about 200 meters. When it is hot, this might be a little challenge.
Heading towards Martin Brod, you just continue the road that you are driving. But at a certain point the asphalt stops. You will not see this coming, because it just looks like a little hill, but in fact the road is just a little lower tare and there is no asphalt. It is about 5km after leaving Kulen Vakuf. The road will become asphalt again after about 4km. Give or take.
At Martin Brod, parking is a bit problematic. There are limited parking spaces. You can drive up to the ticket office and park there (room for +/- 14 cars) or you can park a bit further away. There is a restaurant before the ticket office.
You should also mind your speed. I have seen 2 police cars doing a speed control in this area.
Have fun!

After the big tourism excess from Plitvice, Una N.P. Is like the relax of the warrior. The waterfalls of Strbacki Buk and Martin Brod are justo amazing and, even if august, we found a little number of visitors ( well, in Martin Brod we didnt find anyone). Coming from Bihac to headed to S.B. thru he entrance number 3 to the park as the guards told us to avoid entrance 1 because of the bad condition of the path. Well, from Oresac, it might be like 8 kms of non asphalted road not in the est conditions, but you can do with normal car with no risk and it is wirht the time as the waterfalls are higher than in Plitvice and you can walk totally relaxed and take as many pics as you like. One back to Oresac, same road leads to Martin Brod thru entrance number 5. Road is better here even if there is a little non asphalted portion of the way, but much better than for going o S.B.. Once there and apart of waterfalls, you can visit a small eco laundry watermill, and be surprised of how some modern eco washing machines reproduce its way fo working. The owner of the watermill is a very nice man with a more than decent english who will reply any questions you or your sons might have. Price for S.B. is 7 BM and for M.B. Is 3 BM. Watermill is just 1 BM. From Bihac to M.B. Is around one hour at a normal pace if you dont get lost and end up like we did in the Bosnia - Croatia border!

The Una National Park, along the Croatian border south of Bihać, is a little known pearl on Bosnia's crown. The park includes interesting nature and historic sites, but the main attraction are the waterfalls and rapids along the Una river. You pay a small fee (2 to 5 KM) to enter parts of the park, in particular Štrbacki buk and Martin Brod. We first visited Štrbacki buk, which is nearest to Bihać. At the first entry point, Gorjevac, the park ranger told us to continue to Orašac, from where we followed a dust road some km downstream. While we were at the Štrbacki waterfall, they were still building the wooden walkways along the river, and we saw hardly any other visitors. The waterfalls are huge (24m), in different levels and quite impressive. Upriver from Štrbacki buk, you can find a quieter place where you can take a dip in the water. Further upriver, you'll find Kulen Vakuf and Ostrovica, with a historic village and castle. Further still is Martin Brod, another series of waterfalls. There's very little accommodation around the park, but you can camp near Martin Brod if you have a tent or camper.

Does anyone know the recent conditions of the roads in Una National Park. We will be staying in Martin Brod for 2 nights and want to make a trip to Strabacki Slaps and then up towards Bihac? Is it possible to go on road 218 to the falls or would you advise the R408. Thanks

We'll be visiting Una by car this summer. Is there an interesting village very close to the entrance where we can stay for a few nights?

Hi Jo! We stayed in Kulen Vakuf and it couldn't have been more perfect! Small, incredibly welcoming community! We stayed in an AirBnb (unfortunately can't link you directly to it) and became great friends with the hosts, ate the most delicious home-cooked meals with them, and slept in the most comfortable beds of our entire trip. It was a very short (and beautiful!!) drive up to the park entrance and Strbacki buk. Even had locals wave us in for drinks and meat and cheese on our way home. Cannot recommend this town enough!

How do I get to Una National Park from Bihac? Is there any cheap tour or shuttle to Martin Brod and Strbcki Waterfall from Bihac?
Written 27 December 2018
Well the best way is to get a rent a car and than go to Kulen Vakuf and from Kulen Vakuf it is dusty road,I really do not know now in winter time how looks this road, but there is a bus from Bihac to Kulen Valuf for sure.
Written 27 December 2018
Thanks for the great tips.
We will be travelling in a Motorhome next August.
Are the roads in to Martin Brod waterfalls and Strbacki suitable for a 7 metre motorhome?
Regards,
Stephen
