It's a beautiful sight inside and out! However, you are not allowed to take photos inside and if you are not Hindu, you are limited from certain areas. So much color and gold trimming but pro tip: save the exorbitant fees ahead and pay through your hotel or resort closer to the date.

As we arrived and paid admission, you are requested to remove your shoes before entering the temple grounds. This means you will need to walk on a decent amount of concrete paths before entering the building. Fortunately, some of the pathways are painted in white making the concrete cooler to walk upon. The main steeple is currently being repainted so is covered nearly completely with scaffolding. Painting is also being done on a portion of the open-air covered temple but the sections that have been completed have bright colors and interesting storylines. We had a guide from the temple explain some things along the way, but it was challenging at times to hear and understand him. You are allowed to wear a hat around the temple grounds but must remove it when going inside.

Probably the biggest redeeming feature of the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple is its convenient location on the side of the queens highway, approximately 5km south of central Nadi.

This Hindu temple is said to be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.

You can most of it from the free car park. If you want to go in it costs 5FJD and you need to wear appropriate attire (this will be provided). You cannot take photos within the temple.

So overall I would suggest just stopping on your way to the coral coast, taking a picture and moving on.

Nestled at the southern end of Nadi's bustling main road lies a tranquil haven that transcends the ordinary—the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple. As the largest Hindu temple in the Pacific, this sacred structure is not only a marvel of spiritual significance but also a masterpiece of architectural beauty.

Upon approaching the temple, I was immediately struck by its vibrant colors and the intricate craftsmanship that adorned its exterior. The elaborate murals and carvings seemed to narrate tales of mythology and devotion, inviting visitors to step into a world that bridges the divine and the earthly.

The inner sanctum of the temple exudes an air of peace and reverence. It's a beautiful space that beckons the faithful, the curious, and those seeking a moment of contemplation alike. Sitting down to pray or meditate amidst the serene ambiance was an uplifting experience. The temple's atmosphere allows for introspection and spiritual connection, offering a poignant counterpoint to the liveliness of Nadi’s streets outside.

It's important to note that the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple is a place of deep cultural and religious significance. Visitors must embrace the responsibility of respecting its sanctity. Adhering to the temple's rules, such as refraining from photography within its premises, is a small but meaningful way to honor the temple's traditions and the community that cherishes it.

During my visit, the interaction with the front desk staff was initially perfunctory. The welcome was not warm or inviting, which could be disheartening to those looking for an engaging cultural exchange. However, this veneer of aloofness soon gave way to a more pleasant interaction. As I expressed genuine interest and respect for the temple's cultural importance, the man at the front desk became more amiable and informative. His transformation from a stern gatekeeper to a friendly guide was a reminder that patience and openness can foster mutual understanding and enrich any travel experience.

In conclusion, the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Fiji. It's a place where architectural grandeur and spiritual serenity blend seamlessly. While the initial reception might seem distant, the opportunity to learn and appreciate the rich heritage of this place is available to those who approach with respect and eagerness to embrace the local customs. This temple is not just a landmark; it's a profound cultural journey that stays with you long after you've left its peaceful embrace.

I principally wanted to visit because the About info states this is the largest Hindu temple in the Southern hemisphere. That is not true as this is the largest Hindu temple in the Pacific, which explains why we felt a little underwhelmed when we first lay our eyes on the building.
Anyway that aside, we paid our entry fee, walked around, admired the architecture & paintings inside, took a few photos & were gone in about 30 minutes.
It’s worth visiting as part of a day out of your holiday.

We visited the temple as part of a day tour we booked. The day we were there it had rained so the concrete was not hot for taking our shoes off to walk around, they also provide a sarong at the entry point to wear. The temple is lovely and the colours are amazing. You cannot take photos inside (unless you zoom in from the outer sections), the paintings on the ceiling are absolutely beautiful. There are prayer rooms at the back and the front which we saw several people worshiping. You only need about 20mins to see the temple, it’s s nice place to see.

No shoes were allowed & the ground was very filthy along the path we had to walk. We did not see a notice requiring men to wear either trousers or wear a wrap thing to cover legs, nor did we see signs asking us to not use cameras. So when a very angry rude belligerent Indian man came at us waving his arms & shouting at us about 10 minutes after we’d entered the facility, it was rather alarming! . If the temple owners want to open their temple to the public & adhere to rules PLEASE put decent notices up where they can be seen.

We left feeling very disappointed.

$5 entry fee, remove shoes, skirts onto cover legs, wait for guide who gives you 5 minute tour. That is all okay. No photos allowed inside the temple of the gods and the painted ceiling, This of course we understand.

But the guide would only let us take photos or even view the temple from the very front side from where you enter and exit. We weren't allowed to walk around to see the sides of the temple, even to see the side you could view from the street. So we missed all the colourful sides that you see the advertised photos of the temples.

The photo below is the only view we were allowed to see / take photos of, which isn't detailed at all like the other sides :(

For a visitor who is not a devotee of the religion, there is nothing remarkable about the temple, be it its architecture, history or religious significance.

What's worse is the priest who was working as a sort of guide onsite. When he learnt that I was travelling solo, he kept asking where partner was, why he were not here with me. It was making me very uncomfortable.

After he told me the name of the gods there, he asked me to wait and when he came back he asked me to sit on the table where he was having lunch. He insisted I eat with him which I declined. When I realised there is nothing more he would say about the temple I stood up to leave him alone. He then asked for my facebook, I was so uncomfortable that I said I didn't use facebook. He then asked for my number, I said I only had a data card and couldn't make calls. He then asked for my home number, I said why? He said so you could call me. At that point I was feeling really being harassed and said no. He was like ok ok.

This experience in a place of worship really grossed me out, I was feeling truly disgusted.
