This was a great place to see and interact with monkeys for a few minutes.
We were guided on a short walk around the property to try to view monkeys, sloths, or other animals. Our young guide seemed tired and didn't even look into the trees to try to spot animals-so we didn't see any except the monkeys they were rehabilitating. There were several monkeys freely roaming around the housing structures and those monkeys were very friendly and a lot of fun.

This is rescue facility for monkeys run by volunteers. It is well run, with an emphasis on the safety and well-being of the animals. My 15 year old daughter loved it and didn't want to leave.

While hate to see monkeys in captivity — or in this case semi captivity — I understand and accept that sometimes it is necessary. The founder of this organization truly cares about monkeys. I was able to tell from our conversation at the office in downtown Iquitos; and if anyone knows anything about Iquitos, it’s a prime spot for wildlife trafficking. Almost all the monkeys on the island are rescues. Yes, they’re habituated to humans, and yes they will likely never be released, but they are well taken care of by someone who has a passion for their well-being. The facility serves a purpose in reminding people just how cruel humans can be to wildlife and it reinforces the need for education so that a place like this doesn’t need to exist in the future.

It was a great experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is indeed a sanctuary for monkeys. The concept of this place is very noble. It was very emotional for me to visit a place like this as its incredible the opportunity you have to interact with the monkeys, get to know more about the monkeys, especially when you are an animal lover. But be prepared to feel sadness, as the stories of each animal is not nice. Overall, much worthy experience and kudus for all of you who maintain and dedicate your life into saving and providing for these marvellous creatures.

This was one of the highlights of my trip! This place was amazing. I’m an animal lover so I’m always very concerned about the treatment of the animals. They treated the monkeys so well! During the whole time I had a monkey asleep on my back! We all did as we walked through the amazon. I didn’t want to leave this place. What an AMAZING EXPERIENCE! This is MUST DO when visiting Peru!!!

This is an island located about 45 minutes from Iquitos, in a boat ride that is not the most pleasant (as many things in Iquitos)

Upon arrival, you are greeted by one of the eight people that work there rehabilitating monkeys that have been rescued, before returning them to the wild.

Their devotion to these little animals is worth a 5 star review. They work with very little resources, and with strong personal sacrifices.

The experience itself is short, but you get to interact with several baby monkeys, that are playful, curious and amazing.

It will take at least 4 hours from your day, but worth investing if you are into monkeys

Our visit to La Isla De Los Monos was one of the highlights our our trip to Peru. It was hard to believe how friendly and playful the monkeys were and how gentle they were to handle. The work being done with the monkeys on this island is inspiring. Our guide was among the volunteers who come from other parts of Peru and from around the world. They are very well trained and knowledgeable. The island is a very memorable part of our trip to Peru!
