On a well-marked path you will reach the viewpoint where you can see araucarias , lagoons and view of 4 volcanoes. It's really beautiful. There are water points along the way and something very good I found is that we were given a map where a short extract of where we were that we liked a lot, because we could learn more.

Despite the closed access to the viewpoint we still climbed to the top! No regrets because the view is beautiful at the top 👌🏻👌🏻 it is definitely worth the visit...!
For the viewpoint’s path you have to be very careful with the footprints because you got lost on the way... but on the return no worries, the footprints follow well throughout.

This place is magic, but it is not a Sunday stroll, the steep climb especially in the beginning is tough. After that part, a beautiful forest with huge Coihue trees appears, then a little while later the amazing Araucaria. The last climb is steep but I found it easier to manage than the beginning. On top you got awesome views to four volcanoes and the araucaria forest. This is a privately managed park, they saved the area from being destroyed and did a great job. The track is super well maintained though it would be very muddy after heavy rain. It is easy to get to by public transport. Take the bus to Pozones termas from Pucon with Caburgua Buses, c/ Uruguay in front of the JAC office, it takes half an hour to the park entrance. Here is the current bus schedule:
From Pucon: 7am (not on Sundays), 8:30am*, 10:30am, 1:30pm, 3:40pm, 5:30pm. The 8:30am bus is not actually written on their timetable but that's the one I took. To get back, wait at the bus stop in front of the park at around 2:45pm, 4:45pm, 6:45pm. If you are moderately fit, the 4:45pm is achievable.
One hint: if you go during peak time (February), you will take 1.5-2hours back by bus as Pucon gets the worst traffic jam!

We are a super fit adventurous Australian family of 3. Our son is 12- but your outdoor, adventurous, nature loving very fit and able 12 year old. My husband and I have a high and constant level of fitness.
We have just finished this trek today ( sept 19)...... This trek to the top point- the 360% Mirador is not for the half fit or low active people at all.
The first 1 to 1.5 hours ( if u r fit) is Brutal and straight up hill- there is no let up, it is relentless and on an old unused road. Once you reach the Refugio your walk into the Forrest growth but it is still very much up hill walking.
Currently the snow starts to become visible after about 20/30 minutes and then you arrive at the first lake.
From here on the snow starts to increase and within 20 mins of walking past the lake u r walking in full snow.... The snow is at times on the flat ankle deep but the terrain is flat.
Once you pass the frozen lakes you start the long climb to the mirador and at times currently this is and can be snow to knee deep depending on your choice of where u place your feet. We wore gortex trekking shoes, gators and had walking poles and were ever thankful for them all.
The climb of course get thicker and thicker with snow.. This is tough- it's not something anyone should take without being well equipped and have enough food and water.
The view once you get thru the snow and finish the relentless uphill will forever be simply a 360 degrees view that words don't and can't describe.
This trek is brilliant if u have the fitness level to take it to the top.
Our son was brilliant and made it with complete ease and enjoyment . We stayed for 1 hour at the top to have lunch and lap up the view.
The slide/ walk down the snow was at times even tougher- this is where u need to have your wits about u as u r fatigued. So take care .
But with 1 hour at the top we returned to our car in 6.45. This was and will forever be one of the best treks we have done... The snow factor truly made it a snow drenched wonder land of wow wow wow..

I arrived in Pucon around 8:15 after an overnight bus from Santiago and checked into my hostel. Since it was too late to do the Volcano trek (6:30) and I had missed the earlier bus to Huerquehue National Park, this was an ideal alternative as there are very regular buses to and from the Santuario and I didn't want to waste a day hanging around the hostel and town (not that either were bad).
I took a bus around 10:15, which arrived about half an hour later (its the bus station opposite the JAC terminal around the corner from Pullman). I just mentioned El Cani and jumped on the right bus, the driver should shout when you get to the spot. A brief walk and you need to pop into the hut they have and pay entrance (3,000 pesos I think / 6 dollars) and you get a basic map that one of the guys write on (there is a check point further up where you may or may not have to show this (I didn't...un-manned).
In all honesty, the first part of the hike up to the refugio is very dull and not particularly fun (dirt tracks). The map indicates about 2 hours to get there albeit I did it in almost half the time as I was on a bit of a mission that day and ran a little. After the refugio the hike got a reasonable amount easier as you start heading to the lakes.
The lakes were a big disappointment for me being perfectly honest. The first was almost completely dried up and the second was quite small and also part dried. From the second lake however, you start a tough 30 minute ascent to the mirador (viewing point), and believe me, that was worth it. The views from the top are pretty spectacular, with three volcanoes in the distance (including Villarica of course). Its pretty clear up there and there are plenty of rocks to perch yourself and rest your tired feet whilst munching a few snacks. I actually got to the top in two and half hours so it can be done a lot quicker than indicated.
Whilst parts of the above sound quite negative, the view really is fantastic and I imagine the rest of the park would be much better out of peak summer time when the lakes have more water, or when the trees are covered in snow. The other additional bonus is that most people go to Huerquehue and so you practically have it to yourself (I was the first person in the park even at 10:45). Well worth a visit, especially for the more budget conscious seeking a panoramic view.

We really enjoyed our day hiking there. We took the bus in front of the bus JAC terminal at 10.30. You get all informations at the entrance with an incredible map full of informations about plants, animals and history of the park. Entrance is 4000 pesos, 2000 for students. The hike is 8 km long and going up 1160 m D+, so be prepared to climb for at least 3-4h. But the view on top is wonderfull with almost 360° view on surrounding volcanoes. Takes 2-3 h going down. There are buses every hours back to Pucon until 19-20 pm I think. Strongly recommend it on a sunny day!

Its easy to go to the Santuario el Cani from pucon. There are busses leaving every half an hour. There are two buscompanies going in the direction off the private national park. The companies Pullman and caburgua can bring you there both 600 pesos, one way. When you exit the bus its a 3-5 hour walk to go to the top, depends on hour speed and stops. I paid 4000 pesos to enter the park, if you want you can skip the entre by entering the street near the restaurant, afterworts you go left and follow the signs. Youre walking thru scenic routes, you'll see lakes, snow, animals. When your at the top of the mountain, 1550 meter. You will start at 1240 meter. At the top you have a scenery of five volcanos including the vilarica.
Going down will take you 2-3 hours. And the bus back is 30 minutes.

Took a bus from downtown for 700 CLP one-way (USD$1) that drops you off right at the start of the path. There is a station there with maps where you pay the entrance fee of 4000 CLP (USD$6). The hike wasn't that tough and was covered most of the way so we weren't bothered by the rain and clouds. Towards the top, there was even a layer of snow. We didn't go all the way up to the mirador (lookout) because of the clouds so with a small lunch at the top, it took about 5.5 hours round trip. We could've gone faster down but we were walking slowly because of weak knees. The forest was filled with trees and and foliage that I had never been around before so it was definitely an interesting hike. And the lakes along the way made for some great views.

This is a great hike up to a fantastic mirador. Highly recommended. To get there take a local bus from pucon towards caburgua and get off at the park entrance (ask the driver), it's 700 CLP each direction. The park entrance costs 4000 CLP, a little steep but the map is very well presented and the route is well maintained. It's not an easy route, the first 2 hours or so is all up hill, on a muddy route through the trees. However, once you pass the refugio, it's a real pleasure to be there, the forest is so peaceful and the lake is a lovely reward after the climb. The climb to the mirador can not be missed, the view of three volcanoes is awesome!

The view of four volcanoes! A 6-8 hour round-trip, so do take snacks and drinks along (water available at spots along the river up to the first lake). As someone who loves hiking, this has been a highlight. On a clear day one can see four volcanoes from the Mirador Melidekiñ view point. Well worth every minute of hiking. Pullman buses leave at regular intervals, but the sooner (10:00 or even 08:00) the better. Last bus back at 19:30.
