I had the opportunity to visit Hong Kong for a few days and wanted to get an ‘insider’ view with someone who could also relate to a tourist. Lorena was perfect. A native of Uruguay, she’s traveled the world and now calls Hong Kong home. Her expertise as a tour guide combined with her ability to relate to a ‘tourist’ made for a fantastic experience.

I originally booked Lorena for a private one day tour my first day of arrival. She met me at my hotel and then spent some time orienting me to the city and explaining the best ways to get around so that I could do exploring later on my own (a huge plus). For the tour, we first visited Wong Tai Sin Temple and Lorena really made it special – not only is her knowledge of the temple wonderful but she has an amazing ability to really talk about some of the deeper concepts involved in the religion and what it means to Hong Kong in a way that was immediately relatable.

A quick train ride later and we went to the Chi Lin Nunnery – an incredible sanctuary in the City. It’s the type of place I would never think of to go on my own but was probably my favorite place to visit in the City. Again, she’s a great teacher, very thoughtful and really makes a place come to life.

Lunch was Dim Sum at a restaurant where we were the only Westerners and we followed it with a tour of some of the main market streets and then a ride on the Star Ferry. The day passed so quickly and yet we covered so much ground.

It was such a great day and so exceeded my expectations, I ended up booking an additional half day tour with Lorena later in the week. On that tour, Lorena put together an afternoon spent visiting some of the more specialized markets including the Ladies market, the Pet market and the Bird market. We finished up the day with a visit to the Kowloon Walled City. Like the Chi Lin Nunnery, it was a place I wouldn’t have thought to visit on my own but was truly magical.

All in all, seeing Hong Kong with Lorena was a terrific experience and I highly recommend her to anyone visiting Hong Kong. She's super knowledgeable, incredibly interesting, and made me feel like I was visiting an old friend who was showing me the best parts of a place she truly loves.

I went with a group of friends to visit the Tsz Shan Monastery. Lorena was an excellent guide. Friendly, patient (I tended to get distracted with photo taking) and knowledgeable. If you're in town and looking for a personalised private tour, you definitely need to be contacting Vive Hong Kong.

I took two tours from Lorena I and have come away with a great apprciation for both the city and the culture . In addition to visiting the most interesting sites I was schooled by Lorena on how to get around this complex city in the most effecient way . She took me on the MTR ,the Trams,Busses ,and the Ferry Boat . Now I can really get around .
In addition to the usual Temples and Gardens Lorena took me to the different neighborhoods to experience the diverse markets and shopping options that I would never have seen without her her . Places like the live market or the red light district .
All along she would give suggestions for restaurants and entertainment options .
I am still visiting them know and enjoying the outcomes .
I want add that when we did visit the Temples she was very knowledgable about the religions , the customs, and there origins , She could explain Buddha's teachings in a very inspirational way .
Now ,I am much more confident about visiting Hong Kong again ,but when I do I will still contact Lorena to arrange more experiences with her .

Lorena is an experienced and knowledgeable guide who has not lost the freshness and enthusiasm of a young mind. She tells interesting stories and helps you notice details and layers that you wouldn't appreciate otherwise. We walked for 6 hours that went by very fast. A great way to experience HK through local eyes with a LATAM background. Can't wait to come back and do the next tour with her!

My Hong Kong experience would not have been the same without Lorena. It was one of the best private guided tour I have ever had. I was in Hong Kong for a few days only for business and my time was very limited. Lorena went above and beyond herself to ensure that I could see and do as much as possible in the day tour.
Most importantly not only she is very knowledgeable about the city, but she makes sure that you have the REAL experience of Hong Kong. She will bring you to unusual places, off the beaten track, and tell you all interesting stories on how the local live.
You can tell the difference between someone who is doing their job and someone who is passionate about it. Well, she definitely falls in the second category.
You will not regret it!!! Fantastic tour.

I just found Lorena through TripAdvisor. The tour was exactly what I was hoping for -- a walking exploration of several non-tourist neighborhoods. She had ideas for places to go to see what daily life was like in Hong Kong, mixed in with a few must-see areas for tourists as well. And she had really good information and knowledge about all aspects of Hong Kong. She designed the day around what I was hoping to do -- it could not have gone better. Highly recommend Lorena!!

We had a wonderful tour of Hong Kong and Kowloon with Lorena. She was warm, professional, knowledgeable and very attentive to our interests. We could not believe how much ground we were able to cover in just four hours. We particularly loved her attention to the architectural details and culture. And very importantly, she introduced us to several means of public transportation allowing us to get around the city ourselves post tour. She also helped us select other venues we should see on our own. We truly enjoyed every moment with Lorena and consider this tour a fantastic value. We would highly recommend to anyone

Thanks dmcaneny, for your recommendation on TripAdvisor. I had a great time showing you around Hong Kong! Hong Kong has plenty of different things to learn about, from local superstitions and traditions to history and current issues. I love pointing out what makes Hong Kong such a fantastic place full of diversity. It was a pleasure being your host. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Hong Kong. Using public transportation is quite easy so I'm glad my introduction helped you to get around easily and that my other tips helped you to get the most out of your trip. I hope your daughter went back home with you and didn't repeat my story :D Thanks for giving me such a wonderful chance to share with you my love for Hong Kong! Background: Two 60ish women visiting Hong Kong for the first time.
To Do List: See Hong Kong -- 'Old Hong Kong' from the perspective of a local.

We had booked two full-day tours with two different guides. Our Day 1 guide did take us everywhere. However, we felt rushed and exhausted.

Day 2: We met a smiling, lovely young woman named Lorena. She asked us what we had seen so far, and what we wanted to see with her. We explained, that we had been exhausted from our first tour, and really wanted a slower pace. We also told her that we wanted to see the bird market as well as someplace green (we had just come from Japan, and the concrete and skyscrapers left us wanting a garden). She definitely listened -- our pace was not rushed. She took us to a gem -- the Nan Lian Gardens. Beautiful, serene, fascinating! We spent quite a while there, at our request. Then on to interesting markets, views of Hong Kong from the tops of tall buildings, and a great lunch at a local restaurant.

By the end of the tour we wanted to take Lorena home with us!

She's got it all - a terrific personality, the ability to listen, excellent knowledge of Hong Kong. And she followed up with us the day after the tour with suggestions of additional things to do!

Dear Marcy, I am very flattered by your kind words. Thank you for giving me this precious opportunity to show you around Hong Kong. I love to customize each private tour for my guests, based entirely around their tour interests and needs. Listening to what you really want is basically for me to create a memorable experience. It made my day to read you truly enjoyed your day in Hong Kong! Nan Lian Garden is my favourite place in Hong Kong and there is only one word that can describe it: perfection. Everything is so well taken care of, that it makes you feel in total harmony. I love the contrasts we find in the landscape: beautiful trees, a pagoda, the ponds, huge koi fish, lotus flowers, the nunnery and the mountain, buildings and blue sky in the background. The music and smells make it even more fascinating. It's totally gorgeous and I never get tired of visiting it! It makes me very happy that you also loved it! I am sorry you could not take me home with you, I'm not ready to leave Hong Kong yet, there is still much more to explore and learn from such an interesting culture! :P Hope to see you sometime soon! It was lovely to meet you! :) Warm regards, Lorena Fernández Chaves, Founder of Vive Hong Kong Licensed Guide N°TG12141
