The area
Neighbourhood: Mong Kok
It’s one of the highest density districts in the world, so come to Mong Kok prepared for action. Home to every market, restaurant and shopping arcade imaginable, Mong Kok is the one-stop shop to satisfy all your shopping needs. Dust off your finest negotiation skills and dive into the bartering frenzy. Similar retailers will conveniently congregate in the same area forming easy to remember references such as “flower street” and “sneakers street.” Here you will also find various local delicacies being served at street snack shops or hole-in-the-wall restaurants. One reliable rule of thumb: the smaller the place, the better the food.

Sai Yeung Choi Street is split into two streets - North and South and runs parallel to Nathan Road in the district of Mongkok. The North street is a small stretch of road north of the Mongkok Police Station and is of little interest. On the other hand, Sai Yeung Choi Street South which runs from Prince Edwards Road in the north to Dundas Street in the south and is a very popular area for night activity, shopping and the bright lights of Mongkok.

This is a pedestrian friendly street lined with electronic, accessories, novelty, collectables and other related retail shops. The commercial buildings also have casual eateries and coffee shops as well. In the evenings, you can expect to see some entertainers, singers and lots of bright lights. The area is popular for youth and those doing a bit of electronic shoppings. You are also very close to the nearby Ladies Market and other popular Mongkok area street markets. Do note that it can be extremely crowded on weekend evenings during normal times.

Easiest access to Sai Yeung Choi Street South is the Mongkok MTR Station which is right in the centre of the action. From Prince Edwards MTR Station Exit B2, you are at the north end and just start making your way south. If you are coming from the Ya Ma Tei area, just walk a block east of Nathan Road make your way north until you reach Dundas Street, the southern end of Sai Yeung Choi Street South.

This is the area of Ladies Market. They close the street during weekends from 6 to 10pm. There would be buskers performing. Nice singing, especially the group in front of 许留山 dessert shop.

Good variety of merchandise at reasonable price. We bought some winter clothes at good price. Most shops were run by mainland Chinese. Local specialty restaurants were mostly fully seated during dinner hour. We were especially delighted to spot Yu Mai noodles restaurant. Fish was fresh n noodles were delicious. Fruit vinegar tenderous ribs w/ veg rice was also good. Went there twice. Reasonable price with quality food and generous portion.
Street food was a no no. Inhygienic and oily.

Lots of singers, dancers and performers and its very vibrant. Mostly singers though belting out the odd Cantopop track and a few singing in Mandarin. Its worth popping by to see whats going on. It can get very busy.

Visited on a Saturday night, and good lord, it was like there was something happening in every corner. Street with positively bursting with energy with so many street performers everywhere, some belting out classic Cantopop songs, others dancing to their hearts’ content. As I’m familiar with Cantopop, many of the songs immediately brought back fond memories for me. Some might find Sai Yeong Choi Street on a Saturday too frenetic and crowded, but for me, it was one of the high points of my visit to Hong Kong. I had a wonderful time there.

Full on shopping mode and street life in the busiest place in Mongkok.

For locals and tourists alike. Pedestrianized crazy rub fest.

We arrived here on Saturday night 11/5/2016 which was our last night in Hong Kong. This street is where all the electronic shops are. If you are looking for cell phones, cameras, computers and other electronic goods, this is the place to explore. Some prices seemed good to me, but I believe there is room for bargaining a bit especially on the used equipment because some prices (of new and used stuff) are not clearly marked and some are just crossed out but no new price is there. There are also other shops like restaurants and clothing.

This is the place you want to be for your gadgets, clothes, toys, food and all round general needs. You can even find cheap massages here, you will probably be coaxed to get one done anyway and guess what, it's worth it. After the hours and hours of walking the massage was very much needed!

This whole place is just huge, you can walk for agessss and see so many things, you should just be adventurous and go wherever the neon lights take you. Enjoy yourself with this!

It is busy but what place like this isn't?

This is probably just what you think a Hong Kong market should be like. Bustling and full of neon lit signs and market stalls selling lots of things that you don't need.
