- fire-tower3,185 contributionsWe always enjoyed our meals at MajangWe always stop by Majang Meat Market whenever we are in Seoul, sometimes more than once and this time is no different. We arrived later than our usual dinner visits, and went to our usual shop to buy the meat. We bought a fair bit of Korea’s Hanwoo beef, as well as some pork neck and pork belly. The owner of the meat stall remembered us and threw in some prime ribs and gave us a slight discount. Based on our preference of having a charcoal grill (rather than an electric grill), they brought us to an eatery where we paid KRW6,000 per person to grill our meat. Rice, noodles, soft drinks and alcohol are charged as ordered or consumed. The marbling of the beef from the best grade of Hanwoo beef is beautiful, the grilled beef simply melts in your mouth. We went on a Sat afternoon around 2+pm and it was not crowded. There were many shops to choose from… in the end we bought from a guy who was really smiley! He recommended a platter with different cuts and sufficient for 2 persons, he also threw in a small packet of meat as “service”. The restaurant we were brought to was ok… but they charged for an extra plate of lettuce. I’ve learnt that the restaurants are opened to about 11pm and the stalls selling the meats are opened till 8pm. Whilst not all stalls will be opened everyday… but they are not all closed on the same days of the week, so lunch and dinners there possible every day of the week.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 March 2024

This is was the main attraction for our South Korea. We had dinner there twice.. on a Monday & Friday night
My tip is take the time to walk down the street and browse through the shops to look at their prices and their meat quality
The 1st time we went the butcher charged on average around 18-20K won /100g.. the 2nd time we really browse through and picked a shop that charges average around 17-19k/100g and they gave us free samples unlike the 1st shop
Our 2nd experience was more enjoyable as the butcher brought us to a nicer more “restaurant like” place to BBQ our meats… they had black pepper on the table to season our beef and it does make a difference
The meat was really well marbled and juicy but Don’t expect the quality of the fat flavour to be like Kobe or Japanese A5 Wagyu quality. The quality of the Hanwoo is definitely on par as those higher end restaurants in Seoul or Busan that charges 3x more expensive per 100g.
It’s about a 10min walk from Majang Train station so its worth the effort

If you like to beef and BBQ, this is the right place to go.
Our korean friend brought us here and it was the best part of my trip.
Is a beef market ,where all the local ppl come here to hunt for the best beef with the best price u could get. U can walk around the market and see the price they have tag, some premium and some is normal cut.
U dont have to worry about tourist and the local ppl price different, is same . The vendor there are sincere . My korean friend buy exactly the same price in the tag and they do give us some sample meat in small pack . Price range from 20000won to 100000won, depend what u want to get and is still cheaper a lot from the city and the restaurant in other place .
They will bring u to the restaurant nearby or up stair. U have to cook for yourself.
The restaurant charges is a small amt of money only, we have few can of soft drink , few type of kimchi togther with vegetables to go wrap the meat if u need. Only 22000won.
Hanwoo beef is almost the quality of wagyu beef, i heard hanwoo is only available in korea only and no for export.
Give it a try

A short metro ride or pleasant stroll along Cheonggyecheon leads to Majangdong, a major meat market that offers Hanwoo, or Korean beef of all cuts and parts. This is also the local option to get quality meat or enjoy a decadent feast for meatlovers. Although decor may be lacking, price is significantly lower than restaurants at the city center.

Very local meat market. A lot of varieties. We had lunch for 4 and spent around $112. You buy your meat and the butcher will bring you to the restaurant. They will charge 6000wons for charcoal and side dishes. Again, the market is very local, so be prepared of the environment.

Came with a group of friends, arrived at Wangsimni exit 3 and walk about 1km away. Worth the walk to eat more. Seem like all shops sold similar stuff and we just random find one and then kick start our BBQ. We selected charcoal grill.

There was the most big Livestock Products Market in Seoul. Many the butcher's was operating, and good to buy Korean beef with reasonable price. The peoples who I met in this market was kind, so I had good memory in this market. There was food alley in this market, so could enjoy Korean beef with good price. If try to eat Korean beef, there was very good market.

Executive summary:
Pros - Excellent quality beef A++, much cheaper than restaurants, fun to shop for your own cuts of beef
Cons - Market is clean but is a wet market, so be prepared...don't expect spotless streets
After purchasing meats, the butcher usually will recommend one or two restaurants (above the shops), where you can bring the meat for grilling for a cheap price. The restaurant will usually include salads, leafs and sauces.
Top tip - Make sure you download or print a picture of beef cuts with both English and Korean titles, as very little butchers speak English but are all more than happy to help.

Hi. How do I check which days this market is open? I will be in Seoul over the Lunar New Year period.

Hi, is the market open on Christmas?

Is this market really closed on the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month? Visitkorea.or.kr says it's closed on those days, but every other website/app I found says it's open daily.
