National Museum can be a bit overwhelming with the amount of display it has and not all of them are worth a look as that would eat up about a half day. However, there is enough there to impressive just about any visitor. The Lion Throne that takes up half of the first floor is reason enough to make a stop. The elaborately decorated throne is one of the most impressive artifacts I have seen in Myanmar. The rest of the floors had a little bit of everything from Buddhist art, cultures of the 100+ minority groups of Myanmar, paintings by local artists, music of Myanmar, and recent history of Myanmar.

It's a fair sized building, so rather than trying to see everything we selected a few exhibition rooms that appealed to us: musical instruments, puppets, ethnic / cultural subgroups in Myanmar. Really enjoyed the displays and learned quite a lot too. Our visit at the start of our holiday helped us to understand and appreciate some of the things we saw later during our travels. Very good.

Great variety of historical artifacts on several floors. The paintings on the top floor ranged up to contemporary art, which we were pleasantly surprised by. Other than that, there are archeological elephant teeth displayed, to former kingdoms related athletic acts, handcrafts and utensils, instruments and so on.
We would have enjoyed more context information in English to learn more about the background of Myanmar history. It felt random at times to view unrelated items next to each other. Some staff members asked us to take a survey in the first room we entered, quite amusing. The were interviewing everyone in the whole building, as we notched later on.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this modern, and very informative museum. There are 4 floors packed with many interesting exhibits; a lot of the local costumes of the various Myanmese tribes, fine art, and much more. We spent 3 hours there quite happily.

A must-see for the amazing, tall, gilded throne, as well as for the entire floor showcasing the various costumes worn by all the different ethnic groups in Myanmar. There are also some of the jewelry and objects used by royalty, mostly adorned with rubies. There are many other things to see as well. The gift shops across the parking lot are worth a visit as well. I would say it would take at least a couple of hours, if not more. It's a good way to spend an afternoon and experience a lot of Burmese art and culture that you would not otherwise get to see. Suitable for individuals as well as families.

Costs 5000 kyat for foreigners. This includes free locker for your bags.
Also includes a free audio guide - which comes in 4 languages, 2 of which are English and Burmese I think. Not sure of the other 2.
Audio guide was informative but a bit boring with a monotone. Not bad for free though!
Museum is huge with lots of different sections. Some English info around and all items are labelled in English.
Could easily spend a few hours here but could see highlights in 30-40 mins.
Don’t leave without seeing the royal treasures on level 2. Lion throne and royal robes are also highlights.

There are 5 floors and about 4000 items in this museum and we had a chance to know all about Myanmar from prehistoric period. it's not only a must place to know about heritage of Myanmar, it's a must place for children to visit as it has little natural museum where you can see fossils of 40 millions years ago and fossils of the first generation elephant "Stegodon". We spend there almost 3 hours and it was really worth!

Some outstanding works here. The Lion Throne—a centerpiece on the ground floor—should not be missed. But some of the more modern art pieces, though technically well done, seem out of place, like a painting of Westminster Abbey. Did enjoy the learning about different indigenous people here.

Spent 1 hour but saw little about history of Myanmar, instead lots of artifacts and cultural displays of the recent years.
Venue too dark, and not too well maintained, quite empty in some areas.
Photos not allowed, bags and cameras to be stored in lockers before entry.

This is a quirky old museum that has lots of treasures on 6 floors of artifacts. Alot of it is different and very relevant to the local Burmese culture and traditions. However it is spread out over lots of floors and sections and your could take a day to see the lot if your were interested.
