We booked with Air Taxi to go to Tanna Island to see Mt Yasur. Originally we were booked on a day trip but it got upgraded to an overnight due to low numbers for the day trip, which honestly was better as we got to see the lava glow in the night! There is only one thing I can complain about and that was that our pickup from the hotel was 90min late, there seemed to be a miscommunication with a driver that we didn't know about who was supposed to pick us up on their behalf but I do feel this was a one off situation as the rest of the tour was amazing so I am still recommending you do this tour! Being on the volcano was simply breath-taking, the roar of it was just fabulous, seeing the lava being blasted into the air was the best fireworks show ever! I recommend this tour for adults and older children - your kids MUST be at an age that they can listen and take direction (ours were 10+), you are on the volcano in the dark and the safety rail will not keep small children from slipping under it. Take a P2 mask with you as the sulphur cloud will hit you several times depending on the wind direction, and also take long pants and jumper as the wind is cold up top. Thank you for your response and apologies for the delay in your pick up, this does happen occasionally although we do our best to ensure it doesn't happen, sometimes the odd hiccup occurs. We price ourselves on what we sel and love showing it to the world.

Air Taxi organised an incredible tour of the volcano. The plane flight over was awesome, even got to sit in the copilot seat. On the way home we went for a flight around volcano getting the best views from above. On the way home we flew over erromanga island getting views of the jungle and rivers. Simon’s piloting skills were flawless.
Best experience ever. 10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting Vanuatu

This is a once in a lifetime experience to see an active volcano first hand. The day trip starts with a 1 hour flight in a 9 seater plane, which in itself is a very unique experience. Once at Tanna Domestic Airport, a 4WD takes you around the island and finally stops at Mount Yasur Volcano. The drive to the volcano is very scenic as you pass by multiple lush green villages. The landscape at the volcano is also very picturesque. The 4WD stops close to the top of the mountain. The crater of the volcano is located within a 5 to 10 minute hike from where the 4WD stops. You can see hot lava spewing from the volcano. The eruption occurs near the bottom of the volcano and is at a safe distance for tourists to view. All in all, it was a very enjoyable day trip. The pilot and drivers were very professional and ensured that everyone had a safe and enjoyable trip. Highly recommend to anyone looking to do a day trip from Port Vila.

We booked the day trip to Pentecost Island to watch the Land Diving with Air Taxi and could not have had a more incredible trip!
It was so well organised, all the staff at Air Taxi were friendly and wonderful.
Everything went so well with guides and vehicles ready for us at the other end. They with a few locals were extremely kind and helpful explaining what was happening and why. The Land Diving itself was a truly awesome thing to witness.
The rolls provided at lunch were beautiful. The flight around one of Ambryms volcanos on the way home with spectacular.
All around, it was a fantastic day and we could not have asked for more from anyone involved in this trip!
Thank you so much. We are now starting to plan our next trip with Air Taxi to Tanna later in the year!

Our trip to Tanna was one of the most epic experiences. We had a group of 8 young guys on the plane which made it fairly tight, but all the more fun.
Simon our pilot was great and he took us on the scenic route around the volcano and across the islands. He went out of his way, to show us some of the airstrips on the other islands and low across the amazing island coastlines and reefs.
The whole team was super friendly and well organised making us feel like we were in safe hands.
We’ll be back as soon as we can.

We were recently stuck on Santo after Air Vanuatu went into administration and had cancelled our flight back to Port Vila where we had to connect with our international flight. It was all a little stressful but Meliana at Air Taxi was so helpful and understanding. She arranged a flight to get 7 tourists back to Port Villa. So very grateful. Our pilot, John, landed the plane in gusty 15knot winds better than any jet I’ve been on. Terrific crew. Thanks again.

The views were amazing, We had a great flight from Port Villa to tanna and return. Air taxi organised our flight to Tanna drive to the volcano and back to rock water and fly back to Port villa. We had a great experience and enjoyed every moment.

We had the most amazing experience seeing Mt Yasur. We were picked up from our hotel, flown over to Tanna, 4wd through wild jungle to hike up to the volcano and after the smoke cleared, saw lava spitting and spewing. Seeing a live Volcano is an amazing experience! Through the jungle again, we were taken to the luxurious Rockwater Resort, before being flown back to Efate. Communication from Air Taxi was terrific, everything was organised impeccably, all we had to do was enjoy the adventure! Highly recommend an overnight volcano tour with Air Taxi and staying at Rockwater Resort.

Our main reason for visiting Vanuatu was Yasur volcano and we almost missed it after Air Vanuatu cancelled our flights to Tanna twice. Thankfully Air Taxi has this overnight package which includes flying over the volcano and staying 2-3 hours at sunset on the volcano. Everything worked out smoothly as included in their program. They were 8 of us and Oliver the pilot on the plane and had a very smooth flight to and from Tanna on their 10 seater planes. Overall a very good experience with Air Taxi.

Terrible communication from their ironically named customer service manager Meliana.
There is no direct link to make payment on their website and every enquiry could only be done via email.
I confirmed that I am keen to do the Pentecost Island tour, replying with where I am staying and what time to meet. Receiving no reply, I followed up with “ so see you on Sat at 730am?”
What I got was a reply 24 hours later , saying that I had not made payment and that the tour was full.
Since I am unable to make my own payment online and the fact that I have been communicating with Meliana via email, I believe it is her responsibility to ask for payment as there is no other way I can do that.
After pressing for an answer, all I kept getting were replies that the tour was full.
While I fully understand that mistakes can be made and miscommunication can occur, the fact that I did not even receive a simple apology despite asking for one, shows the lack of accountability from the company.
This is just a warning to future customers so that you have to chase Meliana as how you can make payment for the tours.

Hi,
We did an overnight trip but I think that you can do a day trip. However, it would be a long day and the volcano looks much better at night. From the ship to the airport is about 30min. The flight to Tanna is 11/2 hours. The drive from the Tanna to the volcano is 11.2 - 2 hours on very rough roads. The ceremony that you have to do before climbing up the volcano is about 1/2 an hour followed by a 10 minute drive and a 15 minute walk. I would not advise a one day trip to the Tanna Volcano from a cruise. There is a helecopter flight from the foreshore at Pt Villa to the other volcano this takes 31/2 hours and the foreshore is a 10 minute taxi ride from the cruise ship. However this option is expensive - from memory it was $1800 each for 2 people and slightly less for 4 people.

My wife and I are visiting Vila on the cruise ship Sun Princess on 26th June 2015 (8am - 5pm).

we went with air taxi.. both companies are anywhere from 4-8 seaters. we were very happy with air taxi. flew in to Tanna, taken to resort to freshen up, then off to the volcano. flew out the next morning, and over and around the volcano.. amazing once in a lifetime!
