I'll start with advice that no one told us, if you're planning to swim with whales in Tonga, book well in advance if you're not flexible with dates... We booked two days with initially wanting three but left booking too late. We had two very...More
I can't describe how amazing the day was. We swam with a Mae and female for well over an hour and it was mind blowing! Richard and David our skippers could not have been better. Really knew their stuff, great company, respectful of the whales...More
I had never planned to do the whale watching trip in Tonga prior to my departure but after arriving and talking to people that had been (and accidentally bumping into the owners of this trip in a cafe on a rainy day), I was sold....More

One of the main reasons we chose Tonga as a holiday destination was due to the fact that you can get so close to and hopefully also swim with humpback whales.
Well we were certainly not disappointed! Our skipper & guide were great guys and...More

1 - My partner gets sea sick very easily and he was very worried about being uncomfortable during the outing however he was fine the entire time. The sea was pretty calm and we had great weather. The boat is very small and has the potential to rock around a lot but because they want to get close to the whales they don't go very fast. You should be fine if you don't have rough seas. Take a couple dramamine pills with you just in case?
2 - You could still enjoy it if you stay on the boat the entire time, it would be like a traditional whale watching excursion. However the whole point of it is to swim with them. You do have to be able to swim. You are expected to swim up to them or out of their way if necessary. Snorkeling experience would help a lot. I would practice before going if I were you
The cost was TOP495 (NZD365) per person for the full day including pick up and return to Liku'alofa Resort. Sandwich lunch, morning coffee also included as was, for those who swam, all snorkelling gear including wetsuits.
