Yes you can. Some like to stay in wadi rum for long time. But I found three hours keep tour and one hour camel ride was sufficient. If you leave Amman early in morning like 7 you can arrive at 10 and spend all day there. You... More

You don't need a guide in Petra. The entrance has free maps which explain the site, and there are also signs at the major sites which explain the area. I felt we did just fine without a guide. The locals are VERY persistent... More
