Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An impressive monument of national pride and confidence, this is visible from a distance. Located by the side of Rudaki Park, National Library, this Monument is a walkable distance from Ismail samani Statue. Surrounded by beautiful bunches of vibrant colours, this structure adds beauty to sprawling Dosti Square. Entrance is free.

Best viewed from top of the Somoni Statue platform. First day I went, the fountains were dry, so I went back the next day and the photo's are spectacular then. It's easy to spend a couple of hours in this area ; nice parks, Somoni, flagpole, Rudaki . . .

The independence stele is located at the western end of Tehron Street. This area is a short walk west from the Ismoil Somoni monument. We had hoped to take a photo of the monument with the fountain in the foreground, but were disappointed as the fountains were not working. It is a long hot walk to this area, as there are few shaded areas. The stele is 45 meters high, and stands on an elevated area, with steps leading to it from all sides. The lower section is arched and has six white columns on either side, which have a gold ring at the top.
The upper section is a white cylinder shaped column which has a gold symbol of the national emblem of Tajikistan at the top. The emblem has a book at the base, which symbolizes knowledge. Above the book is the Pamir mountains with the sun rising above them. A crown with seven stars above is just above the sun. The seven stars are selected, as the number seven is a "lucky" number in Tajikistan. The arch shape to the left of these inner symbols represents cotton, and to the right represents wheat. Both of which are important crops from Soviet times. The wheat and cotton is usually wrapped in the Tajik flag colours, but this is not visible on the stele.
The stele was installed in 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of independence. Other attractions nearby include the Flag pole a short walk north past the Palace and Rudaki Park, a short walk north east. If you walk west, an artificial waterfall can be viewed. The National Library is a short walk east and has a few interesting busts on the lower level.

If you walk a bit around Dushanbe you will se it anyway. It is worth strolling a bit in the park in front and/or behind it.

This stele with the emblem of Tajikistan is situated close to the presidential palace and Somoni statue. There are water fountains between these two monuments but on my day of visiting there was no water in the fountains. I am sure it is more beautiful when water is turned on.

Towards the end of the park and next to the flagpole/palace, it is a very quiet place. Great design and a lovely place for me to get some shade.
The view from under the arches are great since you can use the natural framing to take nice photos of the palace and flagpole and the park. Kids play in the amusement park and there are places for you to pick up snacks and drinks.

I think this is better known as The Parchan. It plays a supporting role behind the Statue of Ismoil Somoni. A series of fountains leads past the National Library to the monument. From the top there is a partial view of the Palace and to the left is a garden. It faces east, so better to take your photo in the morning.

At the opposite end of the square where you find the Somoni monument, you will find the State Emblem Monument (also known as the Stele of Independence). Our guide tells us that it is an important monument for the local people.

A rather dominant emblem on the skyline, this represents all that Tajikistan hold dear - wheat (grain food), book (learning), sun, cotton and unity of people.

Together with the Simoni statue and the Tall Flagpole with Flag, this monument resides in the Rudaki Park complex. All are impressive.
