I did the DMZ tour and Khe San tour with Mr Trung out of Hue. You will be picked up at your hotel around 8am and dropped back around 5pm. Yes it is worth the time in the car. I also did a tour out of Hoi An to Marble Mountain and up to Hue with Mr Trung. Also spending a full day in the car. Marble Mountain was not as interesting to me as the other 2 tours, however if you are in Da Nang you might as well do Marble Mountain as well. You will need to contact Mr Trung to check on times if you do all tours out of Da Nang. Hue is much closer when doing the DMZ / Khe San tours.
