I did not have the greatest expectations about the museum with the reviews I read on Google and they were pretty accurate. It is 3 floors and you can get around the museum in about an hour. It was cheap entry at 40,000 dong per person, but if it was a sunny day and we weren’t escaping the rain I don’t think we would have bothered going

The entire museum closes at 12 for one-hour lunch. The ticket is not reusable, and if you arrive around 11am no one will tell that you have one hour to see it. I was disappointed about that, but what I saw in that time was okay. If you have some free time and seen most of other stuff this is a place to go. I’m giving it 3 as they should mention schedules at the ticket office!

Museum on Quang Ninh Province. Nice effort to have gathered so many pieces and information on various topics related to the province: colonial period, revolution etc. But it is probably too busy, misinformed. He probably lacked expertise in designing the layout of the different rooms

Monumental museum on the banks of Halong Bay with very modern architecture. There are a lot of Vietnamese objects there. Moving passage through the galleries reserved for the Vietnam War. Magnificent objects of art and popular traditions.

We were lucky to get here when it was open as it is closed for 2.5 hours a day for lunch!! Very interesting museum & well laid out. Ground level is natural history oriented, Second level has pots & artefacts dating back a very long time. There was a very, for me, disconcerting American wartime display including clothing of people who were killed on both sides of the conflict. My American friends were a bit surprised to read some of the commentary and see some of the display material. Top floor was interesting with a very good coal mining display plus displays of how families would have lived & this includes on the ground floor some of the boats that are similar to those lived on today.
This whole area is being developed with an enormous Sheraton going up close by & in the nearby town a very modern shopping centre next to a very old & rather pungent market!!
We walked along the boardwalk from one to the other. Very picturesque with the boats & the Karsts in the background.

We attended the museum twice on the same day as we got there the first time at 11am & it closes from 11.30am-1.30pm every day. Adult ticket price 30,000 dong. Ground level is all about flora & fauna of the region with some impressive sized moths & butterflies! 2nd floor has some ancient artefacts dating back 2000BC. Also impressive display of US wartime military artefacts & photos. 3rd floor is predominantly about the coal industry in this region & its history (very detailed displays of coal minors & historical artefacts used for digging etc). Also has a dedicated area to Ho Chi Minh himself which was very well presented. We thoroughly enjoyed both visits & would recommend to anyone.

This is a much better option than sloshing around the islands through polluted water. This is a modern and welcoming museum. The top floor is devoted to coal mining which is much more interesting than it sounds. Much of the commentary is in relation to the need to boost coal production during the war. It is fascinating to see the language used with the miners referred to as "heroes in the struggle against American imperialism". The lower floors relate to various cultural aspects of the region. It is both well laid out and informative. It was an unexpected treat.

A modern, well-resourced, brilliantly-planned, interesting and large installation on Halong bay. This multi-level architectural monolith houses several different themes and demonstrates Vietnamese origin specific to the region, by displaying archaeological, biological, geological and cultural artefacts. The building is surrounding by thought-provoking sculptures and war artefacts. There is something of interest for everyone, including children, who playfully enjoy larger exhibits of coal-mining, musical instruments and animals ; scores of lively 7-year-olds lit up my second visit to the museum. For the more serious observer, stone and bronze-age, as well as ceramic artefacts depict the history of the area. Television screens and viewing rooms are available in some spaces, providing a much-needed break from being on your feet. The museum is next to the convention centre and with a short walk in the other direction, one gets to a public park and the city centre. The fresh market, also along the bay, provides some interesting (if unknown) foods, which are always worth trying - the "calamari cakes" fried in front of you, are well worth it ... I do not know the Vietnamese name. A modern shopping mall is right next to the market, if that environment is more suitable. This is a useful way to spend the lunch break because the museum closes from 11:30 to 2pm. The museum will appeal to those who are academically inclined, is a good way to spend a few hours to get a feel of the place and can keep children busy for an hour or so. The location is convenient and one could spend half-a-day there and in the surrrounding area. Enjoy it.

This museum focuses on the Halong bay area. There are numerous exhibits displaying the indigenous tribes of the area and some of the more modern aspects of the town. I had not realized coal mining was, and remains, such a huge part of life in Halong Bay.

Only 20 minutes from the Halong city, this is such a cool one for me. I was shock of huge coal right in front of museum which is around 2 tons in weight. The sea life and marine fauna display is great as well. Coming here you know more about Halong history.

hello, I would like to confirm the opening hours for the museum. I received information via email, but the details don't make any sense once I run them through Google Translate. Thank you

Quang Ninh Museum
Halong Bay, Vietnam
Hello! The opening hours is 8am-12 noon and 1pm-5pm daily (except for the last Monday each month).

Is there any where at the museum to store our suitcases? We have 2-3 hours in Halong before our cruise- this looks like a good option.
Written 30 September 2016
I did not see any storage facilities the reception is quite open and the staff do not speak a lot of English
Have a look at their website otherwise hotels usually store luggage if you are staying the night before somewhere
Might be worth asking the cruise people if you can leave your suitcases somewhere
Hope you get to go it is really interesting
