- ТатьянаVolgograd, Russia13 contributionsVacation at the end of February - beginning of March 2024 in Phuket, Bang Tao beachIf you want to enjoy the clear Andaman Sea, a very long light sandy beach, beautiful views of the mountains covered with greenery, then this is the place for you, Bang Tao Beach! We sunbathed and swam in the sea near the Angsana hotel. We have been booking apartments in this place for the second year in a row. I like walking around the beautiful hotel grounds. You can ride a tram around the lakes of the Laguna absolutely free. The beach has sun loungers and umbrellas, 950 baht per umbrella and two sun loungers for the whole day. You can grab a bite to eat at the bars on the beach and by the pool. The staff is smiling and attentive, so you are guaranteed a good mood, as well as peace and relaxation!Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 March 2024
- 101sukiDubai, United Arab Emirates70 contributionsBeautiful for the most most part! This beach is stunning and surreal at the same time. You could easily sit here for hours and watch the waves crashing onto the shore. Whilst the current is strong and it’s not ideal for swimming, the scenery more than makes up for it. With coconut water readily available along with other drinks and snacks, you can’t go wrong in this beautiful paradise. The only disappointing thing is that it is a little dirty in places, so I wouldn’t recommend you walking bare foot across some parts. Otherwise, it’s great. Also, do not be fooled by the strong current- if you are advised not to swim in the sea, please abide by these rules no matter what.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 1 August 2024
- Malc-66Bury, United Kingdom204 contributionsThe most relaxed beach in the WorldActually visited May2023, something in system meant not uploaded. Absolutely the nicest beach we have ever visited, our hotel was located here and we spent many days and nights here just relaxing. A few yards down the beach and you will find a wide array of bars, cafes and restaurants all located on or next to the beach. Beware of the riptide, after getting caught once, you learn to be a lot more careful.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 August 2024
- ИгорьKomsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia32,322 contributionsAll that smells is sea and clean.Beautiful clean beach 8 kilometers long. The sand is gentle fine. The coastline is almost all built up by five-star hotels and built up not too long ago. Definitely this century. Therefore, there are treatment plants in hotels everywhere and the beach smells only of sea and cleanliness. No garbage. Whether it's cleaned up, the beach is self-cleaning, or there's little garbage, because the locals along the beach don't live. A few places have nice cafes. In the evening, you sit and breathe in the smell of the sea and listen to the noise of the waves. Now, in August, there are always waves!!! And the sea is just warm - 30 degrees. I certainly recommend relaxing in hotels on this beach.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 August 2024
- Bandya Mama53 contributionsWhile pretty deserted - Bandya MamaBang Tao Beach is a well-known beach due it being one of the longest beaches in Phuket. It is yet another beach that is known to be quite deserted, where tourists choose to visit the beach for its tranquility and peaceful atmosphere. The sea is calm and clear from November to April, and one can expect rougher waves between May and October. It always pays to be more aware of the red flags that can be found on the coastline for safety.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 28 October 2024
- shouk2015London, United Kingdom80 contributionsProbably the best beach in PhuketIf I ever go back to Phuket then Bang Tao will be the area and beach I would be staying. I’ve tried several other beaches on my last trip but Bang Tao was the only beach with great atmosphere, and cleanest. The one below from Bang Tao - Surin is also okay but it is quite small and gets really crowded.Visited November 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 November 2024

Since Nai Yang it takes 30 minutes by scooter but frankly it is worth it.Visited November 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 November 2024
- Milla HPhuket Town, Thailand4 contributionsWonderfulIt is a super nice beach, our hotel is right here and we visit the beach every day. The water is pleasantly warm, but also refreshing. Besides, the sand is breathtaking and some bars are also here, as well as various activities. In summary, I would say: the perfect beach for young and oldVisited February 2025Travelled with familyWritten 1 February 2025

Long beach of fine sand. You will stroll along the hotels or small arbors where you will be offered good massages at ridiculously low prices.
The water temperature there was excellent (June 2023), although it was not completely crystal clear.
In short, a very good beach.

Fab beach, lots of bars and restaurants, some fancier (more expensive) beach clubs too day and night if that's your thing. A few locals walk up and down the beach selling various local crafts, kaftans, beach towels, sarrongs, all very cheap, and the people do not hassle you if you do not want to buy like in some other countries! Live music, fire shows of a night at some places, fire works at beach clubs, happy hours (even though things are really cheap anyway), great food, something for everyone. Lack of toilets was a downside for me, but then that's what happens if you're enjoying beach life at little 'shack' bars, very authentic. Something for everyone!

The last time I visited Bang Tao beach was in March 2018. Between then and now, late October 2023, it's apparent that there has been a lot of coastal erosion along the beach. The sand level on the beach must be around one meter lower than it was back in 2018 and this erosion has done some damage to a few of the beach front amenities, Such a shame for this wonderful beach.
Has this erosion happened over time, or have there been recent storms that have done most of the damage?

The beach is lovely. Beautiful sand and lounge chairs are free as long as you buy a drink - even a coke. There is construction everywhere and it is no fun getting to the beach if you are not staying directly on it. The traffic between 4 and 7 is chocked and the roads are very narrow with no sides or sidewalks in most places. They also have a waste water problem where all the hotels direct their sewage right into the water. There is sea lice that feels like a pin prick when they are biting you but don’t get itchy right away. But boy do they get itchy. Expect 2-3 days of being very itchy. I had After Bite and aloe Vera lotion that helped, I read Benadryl helps too. Apparently this is a well known problem along this coast so another beach a bit north or south won’t miss it. I'd say, find a different area to vacation in!

Bang Tao appeared to be sophisticated, much building works in the area. However, for the tourist, there is a nice beach, and in the main shopping area a nice marina with many restaurants, bars and clubs. Look harder and for shopping for clothing there’s is not much with this regard, and even less for men, unless you want sports clothes. If you are wanting clothing then you need to go by taxi for about 700 to 800 bhart to Phuket itself. You may want to consider this if you plan to stay in this area, nice beach, nice hotels, good eateries and bars but little on the shopping stores, especially for males.

Once you turn off the main road to head towards Bang Tao you join a stream of very slow traffic for a few miles as the roads are narrow and winding with no pavements. Very busy resort. Beach is quite narrow at southern end, so at high tide there's virtually no beach where we're staying. Noticed quite a bit of litter and broken glass too.
It's our first night here after spending a week in beautiful and tranquil Khao Lak. We've been to quite a few places in Thailand but what a disappointment Bang Tao is - am currently trying to block out the thudding music from several bars evidently competing to see who can be the loudest. Don't think we're going to have a particularly good stay here - but am keeping an open mind. Will hope for the best and update this review if things look up .

Stunning beach BUT be careful as the sea (in October at least) could be rough and had rip tides so keep an eye on children. There were frequent red flags up while we were there although several people ignored them.
Beautiful place to see the sunset.

We came here in mid-morning to avoid the crowds and the mid-afternoon heat, which proved to be a prudent decision, as it was already getting hot by 10:30 AM. We had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the beautiful beach, take a dip in the water (which was only cold for the first couple of seconds), and walk along the beach. There’s some shade if you don’t want to get too much sun. Bring your own towels and swim at your own risk, as I didn’t see any lifeguards on duty and the waves can be pretty strong, at least this time of year.

It’s a lovely long stretch of beach… At first sight quite beautiful but come on Thailand… clean up your beaches!!
We have found this on all Thai beaches… the country around Khao Lak & Khao Sok is generally clean and tidy .. people actively recycle but the tide line on beaches is nothing short of disgusting and it saddens me to see nothing done about it. I can’t imaging how litter strewn the sea must be.
We stopped at a nice bar called Nomad.. creatively styled with a good menu on offer but our overriding impression is that of paradise spoilt by rubbish / inconsiderate humans.

We stayed near Bangtao beach in 2014 and there were around 9 or 10 fantastic beach bars and restaurants built on the back of the beach and in front of the hotels. When we returned in 2015, all these had been removed apparently because of money laundering or something?? It was such a shame. Can you tell me if these bars / restaurants have been rebuilt at all? If not, what are the options to have lunch on Bangtao beach?

Do it when you arrive. You’ll get better price from local tourist stalls.

Hi our family of 6 is travelling to Phuket over Christmas with options to stay at either Kata or Bang Tao What would people suggest is better with older boys who want to go to bars, shops etc
Written 10 June 2019
i would suggest Kata with older boys, but if you want a lot of bars and nightlife Patong beach is the place to be, only about 15 to 20 minutes away from Kata.

Hi.. I am interested in hiring a private driver to take a group of 3 to Pa Tong for shopping and restaurants, who can stay with us and drop us off from spot to spot. Does anyone have any recommendations for this? Thanks!
Written 7 March 2019
Idont think you need to hire a driver, just get a tuk tuk driver to drop you off at Jungceylon, all the shops and restaurants are within walking distance and the beach is only 5 minutes away, and then get a tuk tuk back to your destination, Jungceylon is a very big shopping mall with lots to do and see, hope this helps.

Hi - Can anyone tell me if there are any restaurants and bars right on the beach where you can sit and watch the waves and eat and drink? If they are open at night-time what time do they normally close?
Written 24 January 2019
Yes we ate at promenade right on the beach front, so cheap we was eating Tbone steak from Australia prepaired as a meal cheaper than we can buy it raw in Australia. They also serve beer too. Many other restraunts and bht300. hour massages. We was having dinner at about 7pm as our free shuttle service from our condo ended about 8.30.

Can anyone tell me about beach access here? We are staying in an apartment and would like to visit the beach but I have heard it is sectioned off for hotels etc? Thanks

No, not blocked off at all. Very few hotels on the beach ...and none at the South end of the beach.

Written 7 January 2019
Насколько я помню, в районе "Банг-тао" есть "Матрёшка тур" с русскоговорящим персоналом, и ещё какой-то оператор (название не помню). Не переживайте, там полно русскоязычных компаний.

Can anyone tell me how I pronounce bangtao please???
Thanks in advance
Written 21 November 2018
Even better phonetically, "Bang Tau" Tau as in saying towel. Bangtao is a great place to staycation; transport by taxi or tuk tuk is horrendously expensive in Phuket. Bangtao is about 25 minutes away from the main tourist area. If you hire a bike or car it is very cheap about BHT700 per day at the condo we was staying at.
