The short buggy ride from the parking lot to the café & bar was already in itself fascinating. The view was a panorama that looked down into the bay from the narrow road we travelled. All along the ride, the driver (who seemed to be the owner) kept us entertained by telling stories of this little part of the island. Soon we arrived and it was down a flight of stairs into a well-constructed private shed that could sit maybe just 30 odd people. Here at Splash Café & Bar, there are seating under the shelter, some coffee tables and chairs under a large tree, and a row of sunbathing chairs fringing the beachside. They serve decent coffee and blends of cold drinks, plus some simple dishes to fulfil breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The highlight was the photo session we had with a family of elephants. Those gentle giants dwell in a small pasture on the boundaries of the mountain somewhere behind. The staffs were all very friendly. We handed them our SLR and video equipment so that I too can mingle with them elephants. They coaxed the elephants into several majestic postures and directed us to pose. The little one was playful and constantly hugged us with its trunk. Sometimes, the baby elephant slimed us with its tongue cheekily and all these amidst laughter and joy. My daughter really enjoyed. It was truly close encounter of the fifth kind we had for the 20 or so minutes by the seaside. Because our child was too young, we did not venture more into the other extraordinary poses, such as sitting on the trunks of the giants, or waddling submerged in the sea with them. We ended with with megabytes of photos and videos, and all very well composed under the hands of their young photo/videographer. After, we retreated to sit by the swings and had our light drinks and snacks. There were not many visitors during mid noon we were here. A group in their swimwear was playing in the clear shallows climbing up rocks and flooding Instagram. Some of them were on standup paddle boards. The place even offered large swan floaties for play in the sea. We did not bring our swimwear, we should have. So, if you are reading this, if you think of going, bring your swimwear. They have bathrooms for shower and your change of clothes. A next photo session progressed with another group in the sea. A family with young kids arrived soon after and were queued for the next slot. This place is suitable for all ages as such. It was Covid period, the tourists were not present and already this placed exhibited her popularity. Amazingly, not many of my local friends know about this place yet, because it was opened just before the outbreak and then sadly for the owner, lockdown. I bet it will be very well patronized when Phuket is back in full swing. It is one of those hard-to-get places on the island where you need your private transport. I love the place for her elusiveness and exclusivity. I love the selfish reality that many shared, that there was no crowd, no rowdiness, no marauding loads of tourist. It was truly an amazing afternoon we had, and thanks Phuket Elephant On The Beach for having such a wonderful place. We will be back someday.
