About
Lying at the very heart of Bangui, the Place de la République and its large white arch were built as a monument to Jean-Bedel Bokassa, the corrupt dictator who was overthrown in 1979.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Place de la Republique is nothing but a cemented arch of a typical land mark particularly foreigners to identify PK0, which is the 0 point of city centre that leads ways to PK 1, 2, 3, etc. This place is heavily crowded many times during the day with locals. Not so a safe place to hang around alone or to park the car and go leaving valuables inside. Even your side mirrors too may be missing when you come. Just next to the roundabout here towards the river, you will find a good vegetable market inside a big 2 storey building where you get good and fresh vegetables only in the morning. Main branch of the Eco Bank also located in the same premises.

again, as there are not that many landmarks to see in the city of Bangui, Place de la République is the one to see.

To go to the river, or to do shops, you will probably going to pass there. It's a huge round about and a remarkable place in Bangui.

Nothing fancy in this arch. It is at the roundabout 0 of the city centre. Close to the arch, there is a wine shop, open at night too, a bank and an Orange shop.

As many landmarks in this town, it was probably once an important part of "Bangui la Coquette". Now it is only reflecting the poor state of this country and the city. Handy to find your way back home when there is a power cut in town.
