“Interesting but be aware”
Leather tanning is the major industry in the city. It’s definitely worth a walk through this neighborhood.

This place is definitely not for families. The nature of the place is rough, but making it worst: the guide was very aggressive, rude, unbearable!!! We left the place just five minutes after with a very bad impression. Not to mention, the shop owner kicked...More

Before going to the tannery, my husband and I had already been harassed for pay outs in various areas of Marrakesh, so we were aware we would need to pay once introduced to our tannery "tour guide." We were given a brief tour then ushered...More

Caution. I was robbed during a visit to this place. It is more historical of the tourist ones. Never trust a na of guided tours, that is done in the streets

Please avoid this place and don't agree to be guided by a local to the tanneries. You will be scammed and would be pressured to give money to a bunch of people including the "local guide" who will show you around the tanneries for 5...More

A little taxi ride out of the centre of town are the tanneries. Worth a visit where a short tour will explain the process from receiving the skins to the coloring and then making up the finished articles. There is quite a strong smell, the...More

If I could rate this with 0 stars and still warn you I would. We wanted to visit the tanneries, to check them out at the urging of many guide books. We were left with a lasting negative impression. We checked out the tanneries, and...More

Absolutely terrible. Stinks to high heaven, not much to see anyway, people working in squalor and horrible to walk through the wet paths. After getting through this awful group of stinking pools we were taken to their showroom and had the hard sell to buy...More

Interesting to see how leather is processed, but avoid nonetheless. First, it is a very stinky place. They give you mint leaves to hide the stink of leather processing with pigeon stool. Moreover, we were locked onto by a local guy who "kindly" gave us...More

Read the other reviews and say no to anyone offering to show you the way to anything. I was out for a walk and stupidly agreed to be shown the way to the Tanneries. Seeing the tanneries was undoubtedly interesting, but I got the usual...More

I agree with the above posts. The tanneries whilst interesting and rather smelly are not worth the hassle you will get in trying to find them and more importantly the sales tactics which are the most aggressive in Marrakech.
