We drove on Highway 250 which goes over Kohala Mountains. The road serves as a link between Hawi on the north coast of the Big Island to Waimea which is in the heart of ranch country. I read that Kohala is the oldest volcano on...More

Magical ride with rainbows and beautiful scenery and vistas. If you are compelled to stop, be mindful as this is a well used road, pulling over to the shoulder or a turn out is a must. You will not believe you are in Hawaii and...More

Beautiful but scary at night. Actually drove back up Hwy 250 another day to see more of the beautiful things we missed once the sun set.

if it weren't for the big blue ocean on the left, I would have sworn I was in Montana cattle country. Same open feel, cows everywhere, horses too. Beautiful drive.

Although not quite as windy as the Road to Hana on Maui, it still indeed gave great views of the mountains and ocean from a higher elevation. Saw many types of animal life including donkeys, goats, and horses. The drive is a must for the...More

A bit of a challenging drive, but worth the effort to see the spectacular scenery. It is close to Waimea and Hawi, so you can combine all these places in a single afternoon.
